While Pokémon Scarlet and Violet concluded with the launch of The teal mask and The indigo disk DLCs, there is still a big mystery in the base game that has remained unanswered until now. Since the game's release, fans have speculated about a large geometric design that can be found in Area Zero at the end of the game, with most thinking the symbol would be explained in one of the DLCs. With both DLCs out and no certain answers, however, fans are turning to other theories about what the design could mean for the future of the game. Pokémon.
In a thread discussing the symbol posted by Opusprime13 node Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Reddit, user poodleenthusiast28 he has speculated that the symbol is intended to be a reference to the upcoming Pokémon Legends: ZA.
Supporting the claim, the user points out that the cave where the symbol is found is also where players find Roaring Moons and Iron Valiant, both based on Mega Evolutions for Salamence and Gallade, respectively. This creates a vague connection to ZA, which will reintroduce Mega Evolution into the series.
What a ZA reference in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could mean
Scarlet and Violet's latest mystery could be hinting at something in ZA
With most other popular theories about the symbol having been disproved and the lack of any explanation in Scarlet and Violetof the DLC, the theory that the Area Zero symbol is referencing ZA or even another future game has some weight – especially since is not uncommon for Pokémon to vaguely suggest future games. Derivative game Pokémon XD: Dark Galefor example, it teased fourth-generation gaming by featuring Bonsly's first appearance in a game. More recently, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon provoked Sword and Shield with a small poster of Gigantamax Toxtricity.
Unfortunately, there probably isn't much meaning that can be gleaned from the symbol. If it is a reference to ZAIt will only make sense in hindsightsimilar to the Toxtricity tease that fans only saw later Sword and Shieldlaunch. At best, the symbol's relationship to Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant could indicate that Gallade, Gardevoir, Salamence and each of their respective Mega Evolutions will be included in ZAbut any real meaning will probably only become clear later ZAlaunch.
Our Take: The Zero Area Symbol Can Mean Anything or Nothing
The mysterious symbol in scarlet and violet is too vague to draw any real conclusions
Although the symbol may be a hint to ZA or even the next generation of Pokémon games, it's a little too abstract to draw concrete conclusions. As another Reddit commenter, Blarghnoxpoints, the design could also just be the remnant of some content cut from Scarlet and Violet. However, if content is cut, whatever was cut may still be implemented in a future game. This would follow a precedent set by Zygarde, which was supposed to receive more focus in its introductory generation, but ended up receiving more attention in Sun and Moon instead of.
The theory that Area Zero's mysterious design references ZA is interesting, but it also can't be confirmed until ZA is officially released and the symbol is abstract enough to not provide any hints on its own. For now, there isn't much additional information to be gleaned from the mysterious symbol, but ZAor another future Pokémon launch, may end up validating some of the theories surrounding Pokémon Scarlet and Violetthe greatest remaining mystery.
