Unknown 2 needs to play the character Sully right after the first film failed, casting the woefully miscast Mark Wahlberg in the role. Sony confirmed that Unknown 2 is in development following the box office success of the first film. But for this franchise to be successful, it needs to start being more faithful to the games. It needs engaging treasure hunts, it needs fun, pulpy action set pieces, and it needs Elena Fisher. It also needs to be closer to Nathan Drake’s dynamic with Sully.
In the games, Sully is Nate’s mentor and father figure, who looks out for him. He has a distinct personality, a distinct wardrobe, and a distinct mustache, and the movie had none of that (except the mustache, at the end). The biggest problem was casting Wahlberg. Wahlberg was originally cast as Drake, but the Unknown the film was in development hell for so long that he aged out and was recast as Sully – but he wasn’t right for Sully.
Sully’s portrayal in the Uncharted movie dropped the ball
Mark Wahlberg Just Played Sully as an Older Nathan Drake
Tom Holland’s Drake was a little too close to Peter Parker, but he got the job done. Where the Unknown The film that really dropped the ball was Sully’s portrayal. In the games, Sully is a silver fox who wears colorful shirts and smokes cigars nonstop. Although Drake of Holland wears many of the character’s iconic costumes from the games, Wahlberg’s Sully doesn’t wear any of his signature shirts — or his mustache — to the Unknown The film’s post-credits scene. The character just doesn’t look like Sully.
Wahlberg ended up playing Sully as an older Nathan Drake, so the film had two Nathan Drakes: two smooth, wisecracking, hypercompetent action heroes. Sully was supposed to be the guy who stays on the plane and keeps an eye out for trouble, but Wahlberg played him like Drake 2.0. Sully shouldn’t be like Nate, doing exactly what he does; he was supposed to be Nate’s mentortaking care of him. The film completely lacks that endearing father-son dynamic from the games.
Uncharted 2 needs to capture Nate and Sully’s father-son dynamic
Their relationship is one of the emotional cores of the games
If Unknown 2 will succeed as a true adaptation of the games, so it needs to capture Nate and Sully’s father-son dynamic. When Nate’s obsession gets the better of him, Sully has to report him. When Nate is at a crossroads, he needs to rely on Sully for advice. Wahlberg needs to swallow his pride and play the veteran. The key to doing Unknown 2 The job is to get Nate and Sully’s relationship right – it’s been the heart of the games since the beginning.
Uncharted 2 is the unconfirmed sequel to the 2022 action film Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
