Tju tells viewers to “Be curious“&”Ask questions”
Screen Rant: I watched this with my daughters, who are 11 and 13, and it really resonated with them. I think this message will do that for a lot of younger viewers. What would you say to the younger audience who went into this with that mindset that maybe they’re ugly?
Joey King: Well, honestly, it was made for them. This book, I read it when I was 11 years old, and the feeling it gave me is the feeling I hope it gives your 11-year-old, and it’s that it can’t come naturally, it can Not come easy, and it may be something you have to fight throughout your life, but you are perfect as you are. And to fight for self-acceptance.
Brianne Tju: Yes, and to be curious and to ask questions and to be curious and to challenge ideas and really listen to what’s inside you and how things make you feel, and not to ignore that gut instinct. I think we all have a tendency to silence the voice in our heads, the good ones, and I think it’s something we should really cultivate.
King was excited to film the journey to the smoke
Joey, as a fan of the books, was there anything you were most excited to film?
Joey King: I was really excited about Journey to the Smoke because I read that as a young girl, I really picked it all up in my head when I read the books. I really felt like I was there, I felt like I was watching it in real time. It transported me. And so I was really excited to see how we were going to be able to do that and have that live. And no scene with [Brianne] Because I love you.
You guys are fantastic together. I love your relationship Ugly. What is your favorite thing about working with each other?
Joey King: How much time do you have?
Brianne Tju: Honestly, we have so much fun, and even though the movie can be a little difficult at times, having that escape is really nice. And also just the support.
Joey King: We had so much fun together.
Brianne Tju: We really did. Obviously, you work long hours, there are stunts, there are a lot of different aspects, but knowing that we had each other’s backs the whole time was very reassuring.
Joey King: Now we’re friends. We are friends forever.
The duo are “So high in the air“For Ugly‘ Hoverboard scenes
Speaking of stunts, what was filming the hoverboard stuff?
Brianne Tju: So fun.
Joey King: It was so much fun. harnesses. Our first day filming together was one. We sat on the hoverboards so high in the air. And it was like, really, we were so high in the air, and it was very scary, but it was fun to be able to do. It’s funny when we think about that scene, our first takes filming it, our acting was like… because we were so nervous, saying the lines. By taking, like, seven, we’re like, okay, we’re so high in the air, but we’re acting. We are actors, and we are good. So funny.
There are more Ugly Movies to come?
Did you read the books before this, Brian?
Brianne Tju: Yes, I saw them at the Scholastic Book Fair when I was in elementary school, and I just loved the cover so much that I wanted the book. Or I want the eraser that smells like strawberries or that book. And I bought the book.
Joey King: Big price difference.
Brianne Tju: Probably, but I’m glad I did. And it’s so crazy to read it when you were young, and now to be in the movie adaptation. It’s just crazy.
There are more books. So there could be more movies.
Joey King: There are more books. More books. I mean, it’s always, there are worlds in which things happen. I don’t say much now. I’m really just saying words. We’re really excited for people to see this, and we’re excited for the future of the characters and to see what people enjoy. And really enjoy the moment here.
TJU will not be in the New I know what you did last summer Movie
Will we potentially see you in the new one I know what you did last summer Movie, Brian?
Brianne Tju: No.
Joey King: Brian isn’t much for talking circles, right? She is pretty good at answering.
