Karma marks have been an essential part of Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes story from the beginning. These unique symbols are not only what grant Kawaki and Boruto some of their most powerful abilities, but they are also a sign of what they have survived. The duo battled some of the most powerful aliens in the universe and emerged victorious.
However, another vital character in the plot has also received this mark and has yet to manifest any of the abilities of his peers: Code. The series gave readers several hints that could explain why Jigen’s student does not have access to the abilities of an Otsutsuki, given that his Karma was created artificially by Amado.
Code Karma may be false
Amado tricked him to increase his hatred for Kawaki
In episode #213 of Boruto anime, Amado explained that the marks of Karma were the last resort for survival of the members of the imposing Otsutsuki clan. By giving this symbol to a human, they can live in possession of their bodies until they have complete control. Those who receive the mark are granted the abilities of the alien familysuch as Chakra absorption, reflection techniques and increasing physical abilities. Despite being marked as a vessel for Isshiki and receiving Karma, Code never manifested any of these powers.
When he was first introduced, the series explained his lack of supernatural abilities as being the result of Code being a failed experiment. Despite being extremely powerful and having the ability to create claw marks, his abilities cannot be compared to someone like Kawaki. What’s more, Code’s Karma is the only one in the entire series that is not blackinstead being completely white. All these strange characteristics point to his symbol not being bestowed by an Otsutsuki. Instead, Code’s Karma was artificially created by Amado to further his enigmatic plans.
The scientist is known for being a manipulative and determined individual, who is willing to do anything to achieve his goals. Amado was the one who gave Kawaki and Code their respective Karma marks, a decision that left Isshiki’s chosen successor increasingly resentful. The cyborg believed he should have been chosen to become an Otsutsuki, seeing Kawaki as an obstacle to fulfilling his ambitions. There is a high probability that Amado predicted this outcome, as it would allow him to manipulate Naruto’s adopted son and use him to revive his daughter.
Amado may not have predicted that the code would become stronger
Jura could have ruined the scientist’s plans
In chapter #15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes manga, Code was humiliated by the Divine Trees, who mockingly told him that they would help him become an Otsutsuki if he killed Boruto and Kawaki. Although demoralizing, this moment gave the villain a new determination to become stronger and achieve his goals, something that could have been foreshadowed earlier in the series. This entry makes it clear that Code will certainly return in the future, as a major obstacle to your heroes in their quest to save the world. This may be something that Amado could not have explained.
If Code’s Karma was in fact created just to cause a rivalry between him and Kawakithere would be no reason for Kara’s researcher to want him to become more powerful. Amado’s only goal is to convince Kawaki to use his Karma to awaken his daughter. Code was nothing more than a tool to make him feel insecure and join forces with him, the one who could grant him the strength needed to defeat his rival. The cyborg’s usefulness to Amado disappeared when he was granted asylum in Konoha.
However, if Code acquires the power necessary to overcome Kawaki, everything the scientist has worked for would have been in vain. The Sentient God Trees were likely not part of his original idea, as confirmed by Kashin Koji in Chapter 13 when he stated that his Prescience ability let him know that their existence altered the timeline. Amado’s options are now quite limited as he either continues to withhold Kawaki’s true power to gain the upper hand or removes his limiters to make him strong enough to fight Code.
The story of Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes will continue to get more chaotic and complex as the series progresses. The appearance of Jura and her God Trees likely caused irreparable damage to the series’ original timeline, a theme that will certainly be explored in future entries. However, Amado’s plan is almost guaranteed to be to blame for many or all of the strange occurrences that have appeared in the manga.
