Transformers embraces a crushing Autobot death as a new faction enters the bloody Decepticon war

NOTICE! Spoilers for Transformers #15An Autobot has just made its debut in Transformers new Energon Universe continuity, but they are destroyed as soon as they appear when Starscream's new faction officially enters the Autobot/Decepticon war. The stakes continue to rise for the Robots in Disguise, and with three factions of Cybertronians waging war on Earth, things look increasingly bleak for humanity.

Coming from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Sarah Stern and Rus Wooton, Transformers #15 returns readers to the main story after the brief two-issue arc focusing on Starscream. After the cataclysmic events of Transformers'second arc, the Autobots are looking for allies, which they find in your comatose ally, the classic G1 Transformer Trailbreaker.

Although Wheeljack plans to revive Trailbreaker, the comatose Autobot is destroyed before any work can be completed, when “Starscream's Brigade” arrives on the scene just in time for a three-way showdown with the arriving Autobots and Decepticons.

No one is safe in the Energon Universe

Comic Panels: Astrotrain Destroys Trailbreaker

Losing Trailbreaker couldn't come at a worse time for the Autobots. Even though they previously defeated Shockwave and closed the bridge from Cybertron to Earth, it came at a great cost. Ratchet was killed in the battle and Cliffjumper and Elita-1 were left behind on Cybertron. Arcee also goes on a mission of her own to find her missing mentor, Ultra Magnus, where she is accompanied by human allies Spike and Carly and fellow Autobot Beachcomber. As such, it makes sense that Optimus Prime would seek to bolster the Autobot ranks, even if they have to use precious Energon resources to do so.

It can be discouraging for a long time Transformers fans see some of their favorite characters dropping like flies in the new continuity, but the The Energon Universe's high body count manages to keep readers on their toes. It also shows that the “Starscream Brigade” of Astrotrain and the Combaticons will be a force to be reckoned with in subsequent issues. With the next issue teasing a battle between combiners Devastator and Bruticus, the battle is just beginning in this latest arc, with Optimus Prime and the Autobots caught right in the middle.

Optimus Prime is heavily outnumbered in the new conflict

Although Trailbreaker falls before he can be revived, Transformers #15 also introduces two more Autobots, albeit on Cybertron. The imprisoned Cliffjumper encounters Bluestreak and Blur on his home world, one part of Elita-1's ragtag band of Autobot rebels fighting the Decepticons. They would be valuable allies for Optimus Prime and the Autobots on Earth, but given Elita-1's betrayal in the previous arc, it doesn't look like the two bands of Autobots will have a happy reunion. THE Energon Universe was from Transformers continues to heat up, and the Autobots will need all the help they can get now that there are two enemy factions in play.

Transformers #15 is now available from Skybound Entertainment.
