Comic Book Panels: Megatron proposes to Starscream by turning into a pistol.

Energon Universe has preserved the classics in a new way Transformers series, as most of the characters and their designs are very similar to their G1 counterparts. Once Megatron debuted, fans weren’t sure if the Decepticon leader would also use his original alt mode. The Decepticon leader has rarely worn this since G1, as the pistol’s alt mode became controversial in later years. As such, Turning Megatron into a gun that Starscream can wield is a pretty big deal.and the creative team is busy with the moment Transformers No. 13, with all the significance that such a disclosure deserves.

Over the years since the release of the original toy, Megatron has been given several different alternate modes as replacements for the original. When Transformers the franchise was rebooted in Generation 2 toy line from the 1990s, a new version of Megatron has hit toy store shelves. Featuring a rather vibrant green and purple camouflage color scheme, this 90’s version of Megatron turned into a tank. In later versions, the Decepticon leader is transformed into various forms of flying aircraft, and alternate continuity Alternativeity even depicted it in its alt mode as a sports car.

Given this history, it would be reasonable to assume that the Energon Universe would follow a similar path and turn Megatron into some version of a tank, as he has done in recent media such as War for Cybertron series or Transformers One. Fans of the classic game should be pleased with the reveal of the Decepticon leader’s alternate mode, but the creative team may have an ace up their sleeve to also ensure they don’t alienate new fans. New design for Megatron’s pistol has what look like tank tracks under the barrel of the pistol. this could mean that the Decepticon may still have the ability to transform into a tank.

Megatron uses himself as a weapon to recruit Starscream

What does this mean for the Energon Universe?

Comic Page: While holding Megatron in pistol mode, Starscream announces his new name.

In addition to confirming his alt mode, Megatron’s transformation into a gun makes a big difference for the origin given to Starscream in this issue. In the original cartoon, Megatron often transforms into weapon mode, after which he jumps into the arms of his second-in-command. Final scene in Transformers Issue 13 adds a new dimension to this dynamic, as Megatron’s willingness to fall directly into the hands of Ulkhtar/Starscream demonstrates the recruiting tactics of a charismatic leader. The symbolism of him allowing himself to be weaponized acts as a metaphor for how Megatron turns his message into a weapon for others to use.

Of course, since Optimus Prime currently has Megatron’s cannon arm, it is unknown whether the Decepticon leader will be able to transform in his current state. His battle with Golobulus after escaping Cobra-La left Megatron pretty beat up, so who knows what will happen when he decides to show up again. Perhaps he’ll even take on a different, more powerful alt mode when and if he reappears in the modern day and is repaired. Megatron will need all the firepower he can handle. if he wants to take back control of the Decepticons from current leader Saudwave, so it would make sense if it was revealed that he has another alt mode as a powered up tank.
