Notice! Spoilers ahead for NCIS Season 22.Nick Torres' love life in NCIS has been notoriously unlucky, and his last romance in NCIS season 22 appears to be causing more risk than good. Torres' last romantic partner was Ellie Bishop, who left Torres heartbroken after betraying him and the MCRT to work undercover as an unofficial CIA agent in season 18. His long-term “will they won't they” relationship with Bishop left Torres emotionally unavailable more than three years ago. Their characters shared a brief kiss before Bishop left, but neither received proper closure before she left the team.
Torres also had minor relationships with other women in the past, as there was a strong implication that he was involved with the leader of the canceled group. NCIS: Hawaii, Jane Tenant. However, other than Bishop, no other character has captured your heart in the same way. Torres seemed to have lost hope in love until season 22, when he revealed that he was open to dating again, even going so far as to download MateQuest, the NCIS dating app. The team has been encouraging of his journey thus far, but Torres' latest girlfriend may suggest that conflict is in MCRT's future.
Torres hides his new girlfriend from his NCIS teammates
Torres lied about his Christmas plans
In NCIS season 22, episode 9, Torres hid his new girlfriend by lying about his Christmas plans. When asked by McGee about his plans, Torres said he would spend the holiday with Palmer's family. However, Torres told Palmer he was spending time with McGee's family. When Knight learned of the discrepancy, she asked Torres why he lied, and he said he was actually vacationing alone but didn't want anyone to worry. His answer was quite believable and Knight abandoned the questioning, but it wasn't the end of Torres' mysterious vacation plans.
A brief text message near the end of the episode revealed that Torres had Christmas plans with a girlfriend he affectionately called “dear.” No identity was provided, but Torres' smile after the message clearly indicated the couple was close enough that they could spend the holidays together comfortably. However, his secrecy about his girlfriend was suspicious due to his closeness to the MCRT.
Torres' lie about his new romance suggests he's not entirely comfortable with the team
Torres needs to learn to be vulnerable with his team
Torres has been through so much with his team, so it was surprising to see him hide his girlfriend. He's not particularly emotional or vulnerable, but it seemed odd for him to keep his girlfriend a secret from the team, given how happy he seemed about his real plans for Christmas. Torres' discomfort can be attributed to the vulnerability involved in forming a new relationship. Maybe he thinks the relationship is still in the early stages and doesn't want to risk sharing the news until he's sure.
Torres' discomfort can be attributed to the vulnerability involved in forming a new relationship.
However, the intimacy of spending the holidays together seems to negate this entirely. Of course, even with the enormous emotional development and character growth of Nick Torres over the course of his eight seasons, NCIShe still needs to learn how to be vulnerable with his team. He trusts them enough physically, but he needs to learn to trust them emotionally as well. As the team deals with deadly situations on a practically daily basis, Nick opening his heart to his team is the only way he can stay safe in the face of danger by completely trusting his teammates.
Torres' possible new girlfriend makes his love life more difficult
Torres' love life could cause problems for the important people in her life
Torres' difficulties with dating can be attributed to her tense work-life balance, as her work at NCIS is incredibly demanding of your time and energy. However, his new girlfriend could make his love life even more difficult than it already is. Rumors suggest that Nick Torres' girlfriend is none other than Robin Knight, Jessica's opposite sister. The two characters met in NCIS season 20, episode 8, and presumably reconnected at the beginning of season 22.
Season 20 revealed that Jessica and Robin have a bad relationship. The distance was attributed to different lifestyles, which made it difficult for them to get along. Fortunately, the sisters reconciled at the end of the year. NCIS season 20's Thanksgiving episode, but it was clear it would be a while before they got close again. If Robin really is Torres' new girlfriend, then the relationship could cause some tension within the MCRT. Torres' secrecy could then be explained as a way to protect the sisters from family conflicts.
