When looking for recommendations based on Over the garden wallit always seems Gravity falls join the conversation, and for good reason. In all the different factors including animation, narrative, and premise, these two shows have the most in common. The formulas for these series are generally the same: young characters venture into an unknown, forested place where inexplicable things start to happen.

In most dark fantasy themed cartoons, there is usually some sort of explanation as to why things are happening the way they are. Gravity falls and Over the garden wall are similar in that strange circumstances are just a natural part of the environment, without there needing to be a grand mystery that needs to be solved. Both series approach frightening supernatural phenomena from an innocent perspective and successfully execute their objective. Although there is merit to a Gravity falls revival, the show’s perfect ending would make it difficult for it to succeed.
