Even at a time when many superhero films are having surprisingly disappointing theatrical runs, franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe are still a relatively safe bet when it comes to the box office. This is particularly true when A-list characters like Spider-Man are involved. Few directors can make an original film compete with franchises as big as Spider-Man, which is why Holland starring in Nolan's film and Spider-Man 4 Back to back is a big deal. Both films are expected to be among the highest-grossing films of 2026 and will compete if they both maintain their dates.

Additionally, playing the lead role in Christopher Nolan's first film after OppenheimerHolland's critical and commercial success could be even better for Holland's career than another Spider-Man movie. The next Spider-Man film will be an important chapter in Holland's career, particularly in regards to the creative input he now has on the franchise following the end of his original contract. Yet, Leading a Nolan film will allow Holland to shine in a non-Marvel film that will still be as big as any superhero blockbuster.
