The right tips can make anything Connections puzzle a little easier, as understanding what the puzzle is trying to accomplish is half the battle. However, trying finding a balance between the right amount of hints and not revealing the answers it can be difficult sometimes. This is even more true in a puzzle like this, as all the words seem so similar that the distinction is often the category itself. That said, here are the category tips I chose today:
- A category is about things that are formed when people get together
- A category is about something that looks like it was made with exact measurements in mind
- A category is about four different occasions that share the potential for something to happen
- A category deals with four different things that a given symbol can represent

ASSOCIATION |
GUILD |
LEAGUE |
UNITY |
This category was the easiest to identify today, although the words still seem connected to many of the other words in this puzzle. However, seeing UNION and GUILD side by side was a tip, and that’s what made me finish this category with ASSOCIAÇÃO and LEAGUE. There was still a feeling that this puzzle overall had a bunch of loosely related words but not related enough to fill the categories. It might just be me, but that’s how I felt when I was looking at the words.

SLINKY |

This category seemed obvious, but trying to find the fourth word after looking at CLINGY, SLEEK, and SNUG was much more difficult. I’m not sure I’ve heard the term SLINKY used to mean “fitted” and I Googled it to make sure it was actually a definition. The dictionary confirmed that it was, but I maintain that no one has used this definition for a long time. It’s a toy and will remain just a toy in my heart.

DUBBING |

PROPOSAL |
This is one of the categories that seemed many words could be together and could not be together. Many of them seemed related to conversations, but there wasn’t enough to tie it all together. There was also general confusion about why DUBBING was in the puzzle. I think it feels more like moments where you’re talking to someone else rather than kneeling, but I can at least see where they were coming from more than with SLINKY.

CONTRACTION |
FOOT |
POSSESSIVE |
PRICE |
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize why FOOT was in this category, even after I finished the puzzle and moved on. But now it makes perfect sense If I had been able to recognize this sooner. I already had CONTRACTION, POSSESSION, and QUOTE together and was just trying to figure out what the last word was. I was forced to try a different group to get my brain working again, and in hindsight, that should have been more obvious.
