If you want to end today Connections puzzle all easy, so you'll want some tips to do it. There are some complicated components to the puzzleand some of the category criteria seem to sometimes intersect to make things even more confusing. But with a little detective work and a little persistence, you'll be able to win the day and take home the victory.
If you want to play a different puzzle, my NYT favorite is The wires. It's a word search puzzle, but with the caveat that you have no idea what the words might be. Additionally, can be a phrase instead of a wordthen you may have found the right word without the attachment that makes it the correct sentence. The good news is that with every word you find that isn't in the puzzle, you begin to collect clues that will point you in the right direction, rewarding you for taking a risk in the game.
Today's Connections Category Tips
DECEMBER 28 #566
If you want some tips for today's puzzle, you're in the right place. There are many different clues if you know where to look, but this puzzle will be harder to solve without expert knowledge than it was yesterday. I find this unfortunate, as I enjoyed being able to solve the puzzle with just the clues present in the puzzle. That said, here are four clues to help you crack the puzzle:
- A category is about the difficulty level of anything when asked about it
- A category is about things you can find in a particular story collection
- A category is about things you can interact with, but only in a metaphorical sense
- A category consists of about four words that start with a similar smaller word at the beginning
Getting to the final answers to this puzzle may require some more clues. You can get them by looking at the various category names and the spoilers below.

EASY |
NO SWEAT |
PIECE OF CAKE |
RIGHT |
This one stood out quickly to me, but I still didn't get it completely right the first time. Seeing EASY and WITHOUT SWEAT was what gave the category awayand it wasn't long before I saw CERTAIN THING. However, CAN was a red herring here and so was ITSY to a lesser extent. After I saw PIECE OF CAKE, it was only right to finish this category as if it wasn't difficult at all.

AEGIS |
APPLE OF DISCORD |
GOLDEN FLEECE |
PANDORA'S BOX |
As a Classics course, these types of categories are always easy and a little frustrating. Three of these things were very easy to put together as things that appeared in Greek myths. THE APPLE OF DISCORD is a sort of thing, but it's not named as such in the myth in which it appears. It's just another reminder of how much the Romans ruined Greek myths and my Roman Empire is thinking about how much the Romans ruined, which is regrettable specifically for me.

WASP'S NEST |
TIRES |
This was difficult as it has been a It's been a long time since I heard some of these metaphors and I don't use them much. Maybe I'll start telling a lot of people to try things out and see what happens. After all, spreading discord is my new favorite thing and it seems harmless enough. Kicking the apple sounds good, don't you think?

HERSHEY |
HISTAMINE |
ITSY |
MINEFIELD |
This one will be hard to spot if you're not looking for it. HISTAMINE could accidentally be put in the Greek category, and I originally wanted MINEFIELD to go with HORNET'S NEST as something that could sting you. However, noting that They all start with personal possessive pronouns may be more difficult. I actually thought possessive might be one of the categories, but I was looking at the actual words with apostrophes rather than the right words to go here. With luck, though, you can get the rest and move into this category last and win the day.
