Upon being released, Raven immediately confronts the Dark-Winged Queen, vowing that she will see both of them destroyed before allowing the others to imprison her again. However, Raven’s threats are quickly interrupted when Beast Boy flies between them and exclaims, – It doesn’t hurt you! Both empaths are taken aback by Garfield’s interference and defense of the Dark-Winged Queen, Especially the queen herself. Animal Boy then pleads with them to stop fighting, saying, “Before you tear up, if you care about me at all, can we just talk? Please. “… At this point, a new dynamic begins to take shape between the three.

What’s particularly intriguing about Gar’s interruption is that it reveals his genuine concern for both Ravens. His earlier flirtation with the Dark-Winged Queen may have been heartfelt rather than just a distraction for Tempest to strike. As the three talk, it becomes increasingly clear that they all care for one another. The Dark-Winged Queen refrains from fighting, and Garfield points out that, despite her title, she hasn’t really hurt anyone. Raven recognizes the truth and agrees. The interaction is filled with deep emotions, healthy communication, vulnerability and forgiveness, which makes it feel more like the beginning of a romance than anything else.

Titans #15 Raven and Dark Winged Queen merge

The discussion between the three eventually leads the Dark-Winged Queen to admit that she does not want to follow the world-conquering destiny laid out for her by Trigon. After this admission, Animal Boy addresses the elephant in the room, pointing out that The ravens broke in two instead of embracing their whole. His words encourage them to reunite, but he ultimately leaves the decision up to them. Both Ravens confirm the truth in his statement, feeling the emptiness of being two halves and recognizing that they are less because of him. However, they still have reservations about merging and becoming whole again.

Their main concern is that Gar will not like the version of themselves they become after merging. In response, Garfield swoops in with reassurance, declaring that no matter the outcome, he’s not going anywhere. This statement serves as a declaration of love, made even more powerful by his holding both of Raven’s hands, emphasizing his affection for each of them.— or, more accurately, for each part of Raven. So, with Animal Boy acting as the bridge, this moment reads like a beautiful love story between the three characters, although an unconventional one, because two sides of the love triangle are Raven.
