Pemberton’s surfer can be spotted when Charles Deetz’s ghost first comes to the Nemworld waiting room, as the two share a moment in which they recognize their similar shark attack deaths.
Burton himself pointed out the irony of Pemberton’s character suffering serious injuries due to Wednesdayof the piranha attack before casting him as a shark attack victim in Beetlejuice 2. It’s unclear whether this casting connection was intentional, but Burton, who also makes a cameo as the voice of Baby Betelgeuse in Beetlejuice 2, joked that Pemberton was attacked by a shark highlights “everyone going up”In this scary and fantastic world.
