Thundercats is finally exploring his lore-defining Thunderan War from the other side

The Thundercats franchise is finally exploring its lore-defining Thunder War from the perspective of the mutants. As it comes to the conclusion of its first year, Dynamite Entertainment Thundercats Revival continues to upend fan expectations in issue ten by shifting the focus to Slith and the rest of his mutant horde. Slith and his associates had their own lives before they came to the Third Earth, and now their story can be told.

Dynamite Thundercats Title is part of a larger deal with Warner Brothers/Discovery, and also includes Johnny Quest And Location ghost.

Dynamite Entertainment has shared their solicitations for shipping titles in November, including Thundercats #10. The book will be written by regulars Thundercats Writer Declan Shalvey, who will be joined by guest artist Joe Mulvey.

Dynamite’s solicitation for this issue reads as follows:

In this special standalone issue, the perspective shifts from the besieged ThunderCats to the attacking Mutants. In the silence before the assault seen in issue 9, Slithe thinks back over his old life on Plun’Darr, and how his world was shattered by the great war with Thundera. But even as he prepares his forces, other eyes are on him unsuspecting watchers who are neither Thunder nor Mu Tant!

It can be inferred that the mysterious presence watching Slith is Mumm-Ra, The main antagonist of the franchise.

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the ThundercatsAnd Dynamite’s latest revival proves there’s still plenty of mileage to be had in the franchise. Declan Shalvey and primary artist Drew Moss, knowing that nostalgia alone won’t carry them, put their own spin on it by creating new characters like Apex and Kalika. On top of introducing new Thundercats to the mix, Shalvey and Moss strengthened other, already existing elements, such as hinting at a connection between Jaga and Mumm-Ra. These new developments keep classic fans on their toes and give new fans a head start.

Perhaps the most intriguing revelation that has come to light concerns the nature of Third Earth, the adopted home of the Thundercats. While the original Thundercats Cartoon has a slightly more developed backstory than some of its contemporaries, a lot of gaps are still left in the lore. Dynamite is new Thundercats Given Third Earth a bleak makeover, revealing it to be a penal colony For thunder prisoners. The Third Earth was loaded with fearsome villains, and not just Mumm-Ra or the mutants, and now fans have learned why. This bomb upped the ante by making third ground even more dangerous for the Thundercats.

The mutants, just like Third Earth, barely received any character development in the classic Thundercats Cartoon. During the action-figure boom of the 1980s, studios were operating under a mandate to sell toys, not tell cohesive stories. From a visual point of view, the mutants looked fierce and menacing. Thundercats #10 will finally reveal the origins of mutants against the backdrop of the Thunderan War. This epic event, which sets the Thundercats on a course for Third Earth, is rarely seen or talked about even from the Thundercats, let alone the mutant’s perspectives. Once again, gaps in the lore are filled.

Are the Thundercats the aggressors in the war?

Thundercats #10 will raise intriguing questions about the Thundercats

Now that fans are seeing the Thunderan War from the mutants’ point of view, it raises some serious questions about the Thundercats and their lives before they come to the Third Earth. The solicitation mentions Plun’Darr being “shattered” by the war. What this means is unclear, but could be interpreted as Thundera being the aggressor in the war. That would certainly hold up with the tone of dynamite Thundercats, And if so, it pushes the new book into iconoclastic territory. The Thunderan War shattered Plun’Darr and could do the same for fans’ expectations.
