What happened in the Thousand Year Blood War Part 3 Episode 5?

The Soul Reapers regroup for a counterattack

The defectors Quincy, Bazz-B, Liltotto and Giselle.

The episode began with a torrent of black, single-eyed creatures invading the Seireitei, threatening to devour everything. The creatures appear to have manifested from the Soul King’s excess power that Ywhach was unable to absorb, transforming him into small, ravenous beasts. Aizen, removed from Muken, was able to use his incredible spiritual pressure to destroy most creatures, while many Soul Reapers like Rukia looked on in horror at the idea of Aizen being free. Captain Kyoraku has tried to calm their fears, but many remain (rightfully) suspicious of Aizen.

A call has been made for all surviving Soul Reapers to regroup, in an attempt to gather their spiritual pressure and open a portal to the Soul King’s Palace, where the fighting is still raging. As they attempted to do so, a few surviving Quincy appeared as well, but only one of them was interested in fighting and was quickly dispatched. The Quincy, seeking revenge on Yhwach for abandoning them, agreed to work with the Soul Reapers, and go to the Palace together. Ichigo, in turn, was healed from his injuries by Orihime, as was Yoruichi, and they called in one last person to help: Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, ending the episode with a surprise.

Desperate Situations Create Unusual Allies

Episode #6 of Thousand Year Blood War is titled “The Holy Newborn”, sharing its title with chapter 626 of the manga. Grimmjow’s greeting to Ichigo will be anything but friendly, but even Grimmjow understands what’s at stake in this battle. It turns out that Grimmjow won’t be the only surprise ally helping Ichigo in this episode, as some of his former Fullbringer friends are also helping out. With some sort of plan in place once again, Ichigo and his group begin preparations for a new attack on Yhwach and his most loyal soldiers.

Yhwach will exercise his new powers, transforming the Soul King’s palace into a kingdom more suitable for him and the few Quincy who follow him. Some of Yhwach’s followers are somewhat disturbed by his new appearance, with the top of his head becoming a black mass of eyes, apparently representing his newfound omnipotence. However, it is too late to turn back, as Yhwach is now the only thing holding reality together, and this could end in an instant if he so chooses.

Although the gravity of the situation has led the Soul Reapers to discover new allies they never expected to fight, they don’t have much time to act. Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Now the fate of the world hangs in the balance, and even the smallest mistake could cost everything.
