What Sandman’s banquet scene means for Season 2
The banquet for hell is one of the most important moments of the comic
During this new behind-the-scenes video, Heinberg suggests that he’s most excited for viewers to see The banquet that Morpheus throws for a gathering of visiting deities and mythological figures. Not only will this scene serve to introduce audiences to many of The Sandman’s Recent cast additions, but it also hints at a much larger plot just drawn directly from the original comics.
Much of the history surrounding the Season of Mists Arc primarily revolves around Lucifer Morningstar emptying hell of all its inhabitants and abdicating his hellish throne. After passing the key of Hell to Morpheus, he quickly finds that Lucifer’s now empty throne is coveted by many across the various realms. With gods and mythological creatures of all kinds vying to become the next Lord of Hell, Morpheus hosts a banquet to discuss the future of Hell with all interested parties.
While it is unclear whether The Sandman Will follow the events exactly as they appear in the original comics, it is likely that the story of Season 2 will depend on the decisions made by Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer. Nevertheless, the moment is guaranteed to carry over into the new episodes, and is likely to be a huge turning point for what’s to come.
Our take on the Sandman adapting season of Mists
Viewers have already seen the aftermath of Lucifer’s decision
Lucifer’s decision to leave Hell is such an important and pivotal moment It even led to the Lucifer Spinoff comics written by Mike Carey. Bored of his existence and tired of how he was viewed by mortals, Lucifer’s decision to pass Hell onto Morpheus allows him to pursue new adventures on Earth and the other realms of creation. It was also this arc that inspired the Tom Ellis-led Lucifer Show, as well as allowed the Dead Boy Detectives‘ Edwin to escape his own hellish punishment.
If so, Morpheus’ banquet for Hell is likely to become one of the most important moments in the entire show.
Given that Netflix audiences are already intimately familiar with the ramifications of Lucifer’s monumental decision during time of garbage, It seems only fitting that The Sandman Season 2 finally brings that moment to life. If so, Morpheus’ banquet for Hell is likely to become one of the most important moments in the entire show.
