As the evil Smile Entity begins to stalk singer Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), it deceives her with several terrifying and elaborate illusions that become more powerful over time. Most of the film’s third act ends up being a trick designed to give Skye false hope, culminating in her tragic death in Smile 2is ending.
The Smile Entity’s curse makes it difficult to determine what is real in Smile 2. However, a scary moment in the film secretly reveals when Skye loses her grip on reality to control the monster’s mind. It may have been an early loss for Skye, but despite what the Entity leads her to believe, there are still some things at stake. Smile 2 this may have actually happened.
Skye is almost completely possessed after the smiling dancers scene from Smile 2
Skye didn’t have a chance to break the curse after this scene
One of Smile 2Skye’s scariest and most pivotal scenes are when the Smile Entity takes the form of Skye’s backup dancers and ambushes her in her apartment. The scene culminates with one of the dancers forcing his arm across Skye’s throat, which mirrors how the Smile Entity forces itself into a person’s body when it completely takes control of them. This disturbing moment implies that this is when the monster traps Skye in a prolonged illusion. until Smile 2The twist ending.
At this point, Skye is practically under the spell of the Smile Entity. This makes her think that she killed her mother, Elizabeth (Rosemarie DeWitt), and that she was able to complete Morris’ (Peter Jacobson) plan to kill the Entity once and for all. The fact that everything between the ambush and the show was an illusion shows that the creature had complete control over what Skye sees and does.
Is there anything real after that smile 2 moments before Skye’s final show?
Smile 2’s final act may be a gimmick, but that doesn’t mean it all didn’t happen
It’s unlikely that anything after Skye’s ambush is real. Her escaping from the hospital and meeting Morris at the end of Smile 2 may seem real. However, it’s not plausible that anyone would let Skye appear on the show if these events occurred. Skye would have technically committed a crime by stealing and using a security guard’s gun, and no star power could have let that slide. However, even though Skye didn’t meet up with Morris in the film’s final act, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t waiting for her.
Considering the depth of the monster’s illusion, It’s also possible that Skye actually reunited with Gemma (Dylan Gelula) at the beginning of the film.. The Entity leads Skye to believe that she was disguising herself as Gemma in Smile 2 all the time when they escape from the hospital together. However, this could be another trick designed by the Entity to mess with Skye’s head and make her think she is alone.
Ultimately, Smile 2 proved to be just as shocking and misleading as the first film in the franchise. Director Parker Finn defied expectations with this sequence, secretly showing when Skye lost control of her mind while still triggering a horrific ending. While not everything that happened to Skye in the final act may not have been a lie, that doesn’t conclude Smile 2 less tragic or terrifying.
