movie with Jackie Chan Karate Kid The franchise was originally intended to be a remake of the 1984 original, but the 2010 work has now been integrated into the main continuity ahead of the 2025 sequel. There is one scene in Chan's work that contradicts a huge part of the plot. Karate Kid canon. All five Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai The spinoff show creates an expansive martial arts saga. Upcoming Ralph Macchio Karate Kid The reboot will be the first feature-length production starring Daniel LaRusso since the third film in 1989.
What's even more surprising is that Chan's HR will also appear in the project. Khan returned to duty. Teaming up Macchio and Chan would have once been virtually impossible if the then 2010 remake had been separated from the Miyagi-verse. However, now that Daniel and Mr. Khan will come face to facean upcoming film starring both characters will have to explain the events of Mr. Khan's first outing. Specifically about how his student won the tournament in the late 2010s. Karate Kid will need to figure it out.
Dre Parker shouldn't know about Mr. Miyagi's crane kick in the 2010 film
Jaden Smith's character never learns Miyagi-do karate.
Daniel LaRusso's Crane Kick appears several times in Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai. One of the most interesting uses of this technique can be seen in the Jackie Chan film, where Dre Parker, played by Jaden Smith, wins a kung fu tournament. It's a little different than the other times the Crane Kick has been shown throughout the franchise, but it's still very recognizable as the same move. When the project was isolated from the main universe, the moment could easily be seen as an homage to Daniel's iconic All-Valley moment.but now after the merger it's incredibly meta.
The crane kick is an important cornerstone of Miyagi-do karate. Thus, it should really only be known by those who learned about it from Mr. Miyagi himself, or perhaps from his students.
The crane kick is an important cornerstone of Miyagi-do karate. Thus, this should only be known to those who learned about it from Mr. Miyagi himself, or perhaps from his students such as Daniel LaRusso. Dre is not directly related to Mr. Miyagi, so it is unclear how he knows how to perform the Crane Kick. Likewise, no in-universe connection was established between Mr. Han and Daniel's sensei.. What's more, Dre and Mr. Khan don't even do karate—they do kung fu instead. So, the plot gets complicated when it comes to how Smith's character pulled off such a masterful crane kick.
How the 2025 Karate Kid Movie Can Explain Mr. Han's Knowledge of Miyagi-do
Mr. Han may have an off-screen connection with Mr. Miyagi.
Certainly, 2010s Karate Kid probably never thought it would justify this plot hole. At the time the film was made, this was not a plot hole at all. That being said, the upcoming sequel should explore how Mr. Han learned about this particular aspect of Miyagi-do karate and why he taught it to Dre despite specializing in kung fu. While there may be a simple explanation for this, such as the two films being coincidentally similar, the movie 2025 Karate Kid the film could create an interesting canonical connection between Mr. Khan and his fellow karate fighter.

One of the easiest ways to address this plot hole in the next film would be to flesh out the backstories of Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi by incorporating the meeting into their shared past. Both characters could very well train together at some point, although they prefer different fighting styles and disciplines. Although Miyagi actor Pat Morita was several years older than Chan now when the former passed away in 2005.the franchise has long been quite liberal about the actual ages of its characters.
For example, Terry Silver and Daniel LaRusso are played by actors of very similar ages. Thus, it is possible that Mr. Han would be roughly contemporary with Mr. Miyagi. Since Chan is now about 70 years old, Mr. Han will need to age up about 15 to 20 years for this twist to work. Alternatively, Mr. Miyagi will have to age, which could create a lot more problems. As another option, leaving both men's ages intact means Mr. Han could very well have been Mr. Miyagi's student. at some point in Karate Kid schedule.
How else could Dre learn the crane kick (this is still in line with the Karate Kid canon)
Dre Parker may be a fan of Daniel's All-Valley winning kick
There has been no announcement of Jaden Smith's return in 2020. Karate Kid film, and his retirement from acting in recent years suggests that he will not be reprising his role as Dre Parker. Therefore, guessing is the most effective way to find out how Mr. Han's student knew about the crane strike. Chan's character may not have taught Dre this technique. Instead of, Smith's character may have found footage of Daniel LaRusso's All-Valley win online. in 1984 and was impressed by his technique.

Dre clearly has a penchant for martial arts, so he could have learned the Crane Kick from the footage mentioned. This theory explains why Dre knows about this particular part of Miyagi-do karate, but otherwise knows nothing about other areas of the fighting style. The fact that Mr. Khan looks genuinely surprised as his student strikes the iconic pose. at the end of the film also confirms this possibility. It has probably been a long time since Mr. Han saw Crane Strike, assuming he also knew Mr. Miyagi at some point.
Much of the Karate Kid remake fits surprisingly well into the main franchise.
Jackie Chan's 2010 film changes a lot from the original
While the presence of Dre's Crane Kick does create a compelling narrative challenge for the rest of the franchise, 2010s Karate Kid basically fits into the timeline with almost no resistance. Even though Chan's film was made as a remake of the original, it has grown surprisingly well into being a canon part of the main universe. In fact, possible integration Karate Kid remake with other films (and Cobra Kai) seems like this was the plan all along.

Although the stories of both versions Karate Kid functionally identical, there are many differences suggesting that Dre and Daniel are simply experiencing similar journeys across different continents. and decades apart. The original and remake's counterpart characters all have different names, and all the cultural differences that resulted from the transition from the US to China also affected the 2010 effort. If the remake were set in California and the character names were reused, it would not be able to be convincingly added to the main plot. Karate Kid schedule.
