Brandon Sanderson Wind and Truththe fifth book The Stormlight Archive series, will be released soon, and a 2023 novel is a must-read before it comes out. Sanderson has become one of the world’s most renowned fantasy authors for the vast world-building in his Cosmere universe, which includes series such as The Stormlight Archive, Born from the mistsand several independent titles. It is important to emphasize that the reader can enjoy a series without knowing everything else, but the Easter eggs, the references and the stories of enjoying the world together make it worth it.
2023 has been dubbed the “Year of Sanderson” as his record-breaking Kickstarter campaign has seen the release of four new novels, three of which are set on the Cosmere. Although they were released early to backers, each of these Secret Project novels is now available to the public and is worth checking out for both Cosmere fans and new Sanderson readers. Each can be read without much prior knowledge of its universe, particularly Emerald Sea Treewhich the author even suggested as an ideal starting point for his books.
The Sunlit Man is full of references to the Stormlight archive
The Sunlit Man follows a character from Roshar
Without spoiling the story, there is numerous references to The Stormlight Archive and the Cosmere in The man illuminated by the sun which make it an excellent book for any fan of the main saga. After just a few chapters, it’s very easy to tell that the protagonist is from Roshar, as they use terms like “attacking” and “Almighty” and reference his soilless home planet. There are also references to Born from the mists, Warbreakerand other parts of the Cosmere, including the novel Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell.
From Brandon Sanderson’s Secret Projects books, The man illuminated by the sun requires more attention to detail in other facets of the Cosmere. In fact, it would be quite challenging to understand The man illuminated by the sun in its full capacity without having at least read The Way of Kings and Bright words. As for whether The man illuminated by the sun It is crucial to read before Wind and TruthIt’s not absolutely essential to understanding the narrative, but it may provide some vague ideas about what happens to Roshar as it’s set later in the Cosmere timeline.
When Sunlit Man Happens in the Cosmere Timeline
The sunlit man is in the future of the Cosmere
Brandon Sanderson isn’t completely clear on the chronology of the Cosmere, and in many cases it doesn’t really matter. However, The man illuminated by the sun is one of the examples in which this matters, as it is set after the events of all ten books of The Stormlight Archiveduring the Cosmere space age. This puts everything even after Born from the mists Era 3, which has not yet been released, but will be at the beginning of the computer age. The book offers a glimpse of what the future of the Cosmere will look like years later, as it transitions from fantasy to science fiction.
