Sarah J. Maas completed the Cutting thorns and roses books with dramatic revelations; the author also does not shy away from creating complex characters, developing complicated dynamics that intertwine throughout the narrative. These complex relationships highlight powerful themes in this story, including second chances, the importance of family, and self-discovery, all of which contribute to an overarching theme of redemption. Because of this, there are few antagonists in any of Maas’s books who are too far gone to be redeemed.
Maas managed to transform antagonistic and selfish characters into heroes. Nesta Archeron is a great example of this, widely detested even A Court of Silver Flameswho delved into his personal journey. However, Maas could subvert expectations again and repeat the success of ACOSF finally focusing on Tamlin’s redemption arc next ACOTAR book. Furthermore, given how terrible Tamlin’s actions are in the series and how problematic he is as a character, his redemption would be an even more impressive and interesting feat if executed correctly.
The next A Court of Thorns and Roses book could surpass Nesta’s redemption by focusing on Tamlin
Tamlin needs redemption more than any other character and it’s time he got it
Despite any initial doubts about the fifth ACOTAR book, ACOSF made Nesta one of the series’ best characters in one of its most powerful and important stories in the series. Nesta’s previous choices are contextualized and it’s hard not to like her once her story is revealed in this way. However, Part of what made Nesta’s redemption so captivating was the journey she had to go through to change and become a better person. Other characters from ACOTAR the universe could use a similar redemption; a well-known character could be even more surprising than Nesta.
Redeeming Tamlin would also solidify overarching themes of growth, altruism, and second chances.
The unfolding of Nesta’s transformation is compelling and the same thing can now be done for Tamlin, but on a much larger scale. Tamlin has done far worse things than Nesta, and his persistence in working against the Night Court makes his transgressions more unforgivable than hers. This means that if Maas uses a future ACOTAR book to focus on Tamliln’s redemption arc, now that he’s hit rock bottom, could be even more rewarding in the end. Redeeming Tamlin would also solidify overarching themes of growth, altruism, and second chances.
Rescuing Tamlin may be more impressive than the story of a court of silver flames
Making Tamlin likable is a big challenge, but Maas succeeds
Maas masterfully develops characters like Nesta and Tamlin, revealing their true motivations in a way that makes them more sympathetic. This is particularly impressive when it comes to under-appreciated characters, as it allows readers to connect with them on a deeper level. Exploring a hated character’s perspective can highlight the obstacles they face and how these challenges shape them into better versions of themselves. No ACOTAR character needs this transformation more than Tamlin, whose journey of self-discovery could involve atoning for his past betrayals.
Tamlin has hurt almost every beloved character in ACOTAR, including Feyre, Rhysand, and even the innocent Elain Archeron. With a long list of mistakes to make up for, his story could easily fill an entire book. However, your journey can present a fascinating transformation, delving into the layers of your guilt and your potential for growth.
Tamlin initially won the hearts of many in A Court of Thorns and Roses and could do so again.
Tamlin initially won the hearts of many in Cutting thorns and roses and I could do it again. The trauma of being Under the Mountain influences his behavior in the second book, creating the negative image he now carries. While many of his actions are inexcusable, the beauty of a redemption arc lies in exploring the deeper complexities and struggles. that contextualize a character’s mistakes. Tamlin will likely get that chance, especially since he’s already shown signs of selflessness, like when he gave his power to save Rhysand. His redemption could be exciting and satisfying.
