There's only one way EA can celebrate The Sims' 25th anniversary in February

The SimsThe 25th anniversary is coming up on February 4, 2025, and the best way EA can celebrate this milestone is re-releasing the original game. EA has already announced that it will go all-in The Sims 4 and will be used as a basis for future Sims Universe Project. This essentially dashed many fans' hopes of a potential Sims 5 which could have reintroduced some of the features of the old Sims games that are missing Sims 4.

While bringing back a 25-year-old game might not immediately seem like a way to solve these problems, it would be a smart move for EA. Relaunch The Sims not only would it give players a way to revive old features they miss The Sims 4but it would also allow EA to show the Sims community that the company is aware of what it wants. Now that it is increasingly difficult to reproduce the original The SimsThis would also likely be a smart move on the company's part to prevent players from turning to unofficial versions they find online.

Whether it's older gamers looking to relive nostalgia, or younger gamers who have started with the latest games and are curious about older versions of The Simsthere seems to be a large audience that would be happy with a Sims 1 relaunch. Several YouTubers posted retrospectives on The Sims to great success. YouTuber Call me Kevinvideo showing the difficulty of The Sims 1 has racked up more than two million views over the past two years. Likewise, YouTuber IzzzzzzLast year's examination of the game's occasionally dark tone had more than a million views.

It seems clear from these numbers that many players are still interested in learning about The Sims and how it differs from recent games. It doesn't seem unreasonable to believe that at least some of these players would be interested in trying the game for themselves. This is probably even more true when players analyze The Sims and realized that there were some gameplay elements that are not present in The Sims 4.

Sims 1 has many features that later games lack

Players miss out on random events and best expansions

One thing Sims 4 gamers would probably love it The Sims It's your difficulty. There are many challenges created by players dedicated to making The Sims 4 harder to play, but that was never a problem in The Sims. Just trying to survive can be a challenge The Simsforcing players to do things like sell sections of their walls, so their Sims can buy a snack from their own fridge. Sims Fans who like an extra challenge would probably love the chance to try this harder version of the game.

In addition to the difficulty, The Sims also had some specific game features that are not part of the The Sims 4. One feature that players miss out on in the original game is robberieswhere a masked bandit invaded their homes. Players would need a burglar alarm or have their Sim quickly call the police to stop their items from being stolen. The game also had some strange quirks, like random threatening phone calls that added to the game's strange charm.

Many players also mourn the loss of The Sims'best expansion packs. Different The Sims 4 expansions, where themed objects are spread across expansion packs, game packs and stuff packs, expansions for The Sims were more comprehensive. For example, The Sims Making Magic included all aspects The Sims' supernatural side, on the contrary The Sims 4 which split things up into several expansion packs and games like The Sims 4 Vampires and The Sims 4 Werewolves.

Sims 1 is practically unplayable

The Sims 1 is not available digitally

Why The Sims was never released digitally, it may be very difficult to play in 2024. Even if players still have a computer with a CD drive, they need to track down an old version of the game with an active product key. Otherwise, players will need to resort to unofficial digital versions of questionable legality. Both problems could be easily fixed if EA re-released the game for its 25th anniversary.

The Sims is not alone in this issue. There are many older games that are becoming more difficult to play. There are many older console games that have never been released digitally or are only available through something like a Nintendo Switch Online subscription but cannot be purchased. A relaunch of The Sims it would be a step in the right direction to give players access to some of these lost games.
