2025 will be a big year for fighting game releases, and yet the Soul Calibur the franchise is mysteriously not among them. Despite the fact that several other big names like Fatal Fury and a second Capcom Fighting Collection are scheduled to be released next year, Soul Calibur I haven’t seen a new entry since 2018. Considering how many years the franchise has been around, it feels like an important fighting game is slowly being forgotten.
THE Soul Calibur The franchise dates back to 1995 with its first game, Soul Blade (originally Edge of the Soul in Japan) and has been a reference in the fighting game scene ever since. Soul Calibur 6 is mostly noteworthy as it served as a satisfying reboot for the franchise after the mess it was Soul Calibur 5. This, in turn, allows the franchise to not only reuse the fantastic and familiar roster it has maintained for years, but also Explore your characters’ stories in new, never-before-seen ways.
What does Soulcalibur do? Exclusive to other fighting games
A franchise with unique combat mechanics
While most other fighting games like street fighter and Tekken almost exclusively its fighters use hand-to-hand combat, the Soul Calibur franchise managed to change things through weapon-based combat. These weapons range from simple swords and shields to giant greatswords and even floating magical orbs. This ends up doing Soul CaliburThe roster is full of immense variety that can suit many different playstyles.
Soul Calibur It is also worth noting how is the fighting game franchise that revolutionized the 8-way racing format. When most fighting games remained confined to simple horizontal movements and jumps, Soul Calibur allowed characters to move in eight different directions in the 3D arena. This provides more freedom of movement and the chance to utilize more unique combos and defensive strategies.
Soul Calibur has clear potential for another entry in the franchise
Soulcalibur 6 creates many future stories
Soul Calibur 6 detailed the numerous stories of the various characters on its roster, with many of them ending in ways that clearly establish the potential for continuation later. With multiple characters being set up to pursue the cursed sword Soul Edge for various reasons, there’s clearly enough setup for a future installment in the franchise. Combined with the fact that the DLC revealed that Cassandra became aware of the events of the original timeline (horrifying Soul Calibur characters and all), there’s plenty for a future sequel to expand on.
Even with the countless iconic fighting games that are returning after many years, it still feels like this famous franchise is missing. Thanks to its huge cast of characters and intriguing story, there’s certainly potential for a sequel at some point in the future. Only time will tell when a new entry into the Soul Calibur the franchise will finally arrive, but when it does, it will certainly make a triumphant return to the stage of history.
