Venom: The Last Dance Director Kelly Marcel has teased more symbiote stories following the conclusion of Tom Hardy’s trilogy. Serving as the most successful entries in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, it was revealed that the next threequel will be the last time Hardy plays Eddie Brock or voices the Venom symbiote. Venom: The Last Dance also marks Marcel’s directorial debut, after having been directly involved in writing the Poison the two previous films in the trilogy.
Speaking at the Sony panel at this year’s New York Comic-Con, which Screen speech attended, Marcel revealed that the plan was always to wrap up Eddie and Venom’s story in a three-film arc. However, the director suggested that the final film will contain Easter Eggs That Could Potentially Set Up Future Symbiote Appearancespointing to the vast array of stories in the original comics. Check out her comments below:
This is the last Venom movie. We always saw it as three pictures and wanted to tell the story of Eddie and Venom in three films. The arc ends here, but as you know, there are many symbiote stories in the comics.
Marcel has already hinted that more things will come from the creator of Venom
While it’s still unclear who will play Venom’s original creator, the primordial deity known as Knull, his next appearance in Venom: The Last Dance has already been provoked as just his introduction into Sony’s Spider-Man universe. With Marcel previously describing Knull as “Too powerful for ‘one and done’,”It looks like audiences will see more of the dark character who stands proudly among the pantheon of Marvel’s most dangerous villains.
The question remains, however, which of Sony’s Marvel characters could potentially take on Knull and his symbiotes once Eddie Brock and Venom are out of the picture.
As the person responsible for creating the parasitic life forms known as Klyntar or symbiotes any of Knull’s future appearances will likely be linked to the parasitic creatures. Just as Marcel points out, Marvel Comics has already introduced several other symbiotes besides Venom, many of which are directly linked to the supernatural threat of their original master.
The question remains, however, which of Sony’s Marvel characters could potentially take on Knull and his symbiotes once Eddie Brock and Venom are out of the picture. While Stephen Graham’s Toxin could probably be one of the Easter eggs Marcel is referring to, most viewers Ideally, I’d like to see that responsibility fall to Spider-Man himself.
Our thoughts on future symbiote movies
It’s time for Sony’s Spider-Man universe to bring back its titular character
For years, audiences have wanted to see Spider-Man and the symbiote team up, following the less-than-ideal version of Venom portrayed by Topher Grace in 2007. Spider-Man 3. However, the curious complexities of Sony’s deals with Marvel Studios that allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in the MCU have largely prevented such a phenomenon.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home featured a cameo from Hardy throughout the universe and hinted at a symbiote entering the MCU, the Poison the films were the most successful entries in Sony’s Spider-Man universe. As such, the studio may intend to keep all future appearances to itself. Instead, perhaps the ideal way to develop more symbiote movies later Venom: The Last Dance would be Sony finally trying to bring Andrew Garfield back to The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and give him the alien showdown he originally missed.
