Warning: Major spoilers for Netflix Platform 2 below!Platform 2 The ending again revolves around rescuing a child, but what is the purpose of these imprisoned children within the franchise? Platform was a big hit for Netflix in 2019, with Ivan Massaguet's Goreng attempting to survive in the "Vertical Self-Government Center," a fancy term for a surreal prison where food is handed out through the titular platform. The film makes no subtle commentary on class or the distribution of wealth within society, and the film itself is one big metaphor.
Platforms The ending offers a glimmer of hope when Goreng decides to send a message to the cruel, invisible prison authorities, saving a life. His fate was deliberately left ambiguous, and a new cast of characters appeared on the fronts. Platform 2. The sequel still doesn't reveal who built the tower and why, but it does reveal a little about the history of the prison. The film is also a stealth prequel set about a year later. to events of the original installment plan
Why Goreng and Perempuan find and save children in the Platform films
In both Platform films, the heroes try to atone for their guilt.
Platform 2 In the finale, the heroine of the sequel, Perempuan (Milena Smith), comes up with an escape from the Center for Vertical Self-Government. She fakes her death so that the prison janitors will escort her out of the main complex, but in doing so she notices a small boy being placed on the lowest level, the 333rd floor. Perempuan decides to save the boy, and in a scene that mirrors the ending of the original, they descend into the black void beneath the prison..
Both Platform films imply that their heroes not only redeem themselves by saving a child, but essentially regain their innocence in the process.
The other cursed captives then take the badly wounded Perempuan away, assuring her that while her journey is over, the boy will receive "one more chance" as he climbs back onto the platform. The same thing happened to Goreng in Platformwhere he saved a girl from the 333rd floor. but decided not to return with her. Both films imply that their heroes not only redeem themselves by saving the child, but essentially regain their innocence in the process.

Why are children put at the bottom of a prison and played on slides?
What does the administration want from the children in Platform 2?
Platform 2 Some elements are kept deliberately vague, including a plot involving a group of children playing around a cairn. Sometimes the sequel will cut these scenes without any real context for what they mean or even when they happen. However, the presence of Alexandra Masangkay's Miharu, who was shown trying to rescue her daughter from the Pit in the first film, and the way she accompanies the boy Perempuan later rescues from the pyramid suggests there is a bigger plan at play.
The vertical center of self-government appears to be a twisted social experiment on behalf of whoever controls the tower. Rulers test the morals and principles of the inhabitants, both by the distribution of food and their reaction to deprivation of it. for weeks on end. Children are also placed on the lower level, apparently so that those prisoners seeking redemption will try to save them.
Play time for children in Platform 2 seems like another metaphor in the storywhere children's entertainment is replaced by a race to the top of the pyramid. The fact that the "winner" is then dropped off on the 333rd floor seems significant, where the child's reward for "winning" is then placed back on the very bottom step of the stairs.
Are the kids on the platform real? Explanation of their meaning and purpose
Is there a final level of the Platform?
Last moments Platform becomes surreal when a badly wounded Goreng discovers a child who supposedly shouldn't exist, and they descend into the dark void together. Talking to Digital Spy In 2019, director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia said he left these final moments up to the audience, but his own reading is rather dark.
For me, such a lower level does not exist. Goreng died before he arrived and this is just his interpretation of what he thought he should do.
Both Platform 2 and the original clearly implies that the final moments take place inside the character's heads.. Goreng was severely beaten before reaching the 333rd floor, and Perempuan suffered a severe head injury when she discovered the boy. The films offer two readings; everything is real and the main characters ultimately save two innocent souls, or they are already dead and their “descent” into the void is their dying thoughts.
The latter reading is reinforced by the way they see dead characters within the void itself. Both films rely on metaphors and subtext, with children representing purity and innocence. The main characters lack both, so... sacrificing themselves to save children, they save their souls. At least that's one way to read their purpose within. Platform series, but ultimately each viewer must decide whether they exist at all.
