Ish was considered something of a leader of the clan before Charlie arrived. However, after Charlie finds a solution to one of the biggest problems experienced by the survivors and successfully provides them with a resource essential to their survival, he questions Ish's place as leader.
He also fears that they are following his primordial methods
Since the start of the pandemic, Ish has relied heavily on her prior knowledge and her ability to learn to survive. Emma's arrival initially forced him to adopt several primary roles to ensure they survived in a world where society had collapsed. Although over the years he has managed to create a fine balance between returning to his original roots while maintaining modern methods to support himself, Charlie's arrival and potential leadership threatens his approach. In The Earth Remains At the end of episode 4, Ish fears that Charlie will take over and lead everyone to return to a more primitive existence.
