The Veilguard Romance Option, Ranked

One of the things that makes a game feel Dragon Age: The Veil Guard Being a memorable adventure is the emotional connection and engaging qualities that can come from deep character story arcs and relationships with those characters. Building relationships, whether friendship or romance, with fellow party members and strengthening alliances within various factions has been an important part of all entries into the Dragon Age series from the beginning. This allows it to really lean into the RPG part of the RPG and puts more weight and emphasis on the choices players make while interacting with these NPCs.

Dragon Age: The Veil Guard has seven companions who join the player-controlled character, Rook, to take on the challenge of protecting Thedas from the growing threat of the Plague and the destruction that accompanies it. Each of these companions has strong stories and very different personalities, giving the cozy group the feeling of being a somewhat disorganized collection. Each is a different mix of the three classes available in the game, but with their own unique skill trees, so players can tweak their skills to make them useful in combat. Outside of combat, however, players can take time to build intimate bonds that can take on a romantic aspect.

Naturally, the key to building these relationships comes down to strengthening the bond between Rook and each NPC. Rook can date any of his seven companions, regardless of gender or race.but only if your relationship points are high enough. During conversations between Rook and companions, there are often choices that can make a character approve or disapprove of what Rook is saying or doing. Additionally, relationships can grow by taking certain teammates on missions to spend more time with them and, of course, completing that teammate’s individual character story arc.

Now, for Guard of the Veilshe takes on the much more important role of Rook’s partner and companion, and is the first of the companions to be at Rook’s side in the early stages of the game.

Harding may be a badass dwarven scout with incredible bow-wielding skills and unique and unexpected magical power, but she is much more than that. Harding is a bit of the girl next door, the red-haired girl from Ferelden. She loves nature, animals and adventure and has a big heart. Between his inner turmoil and threats to his family and his faction known as the Antivan Crows, Lucanis has a lot to distract from Rook’s final mission, but perhaps Rook could also be the key to helping him find ways to find his footing.

5

Taash

A Qunari dragon hunter of the lords of fortune

Taash may not struggle with the same types of demons that Lucanis does, but they have their own inner turmoil to face and decisions to make. Taash’s personal journey to discover who they are is powerful and may hit a little too close to home for some players. Taash has long struggled with being the person their mother wants them to be, and is just learning what they want in life while simultaneously trying to help Rook track down destroyed dragons.

Taash is a strong warrior and dragon hunter with a secret ability that has left a mark on his back. Unfortunately, Taash also comes with a quick temper and a hefty dose of anger issues. His personal story arc is an emotional rollercoaster, but it may be one of the most moving in the game.

As Rook gets to know Emmrich, his thoughtfulness, sensitivity, and passion come through more and more.. He takes protecting the innocent seriously and is interested in all souls, whether they are living or dead.

Romancing Emmrich can be an exceptionally beautiful and serene experience, with sweet moments of Rook and Emmrich talking about life and death and exploring Emmrich’s past. The depth of his character is impressive, especially in a group already so full of intricate characters.

As if Emmrich wasn’t already sweet enough to steal Rook’s heart, he also comes with his skeletal assistant, Manfred. which is as hilarious as it is macabre. Once a spirit, Emmrich discovered that Manfred had a very curious behavior and so Emmrich created a special skeletal body for Manfred to occupy. He has become known for his skills as a monster hunter and is proud of his role in life. With Rook, a spark of love can break through his tough exterior and reveal the gentle, romantic man he can be.

Through unfortunate circumstances in his work with the Gray Wardens, Davrin became the sole caretaker of a young orphaned griffin whom he named Assan.. Assan is easily one of the most adorable creatures to ever exist in a Dragon Age game, and it would be hard not to want to get close to Davrin just to gain access to the mischievous and surprising griffin.

Davrin, like any of the companions, can be romanced by whatever gender or race players want their Tower to be. Each has unique stories for their personal arcs, but also contains special scenes and narratives focused specifically on a budding romance with Rook.
