Despite receiving some mixed reviews Dragon Age: The Veil Guard is a truly impressive RPG with a lot to explore. BioWare does justice to the beloved Dragon Age franchise with a fantastic battle system, stunning environments and a distinct, polished style. With so much content available to players, those on their first or second playthrough may not think that much more would need to be added to the game for a seamless experience.
The game has several options to make each playthrough unique, with three different classes with three more individual specializations, four bloodlines and seven romantic companions. That said, you’d expect romance to be one of the game’s biggest strengths — games like Baldur’s Gate 3 have achieved huge success with a wide range of player customization and romance options. However, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard it’s missing something that could actually make the romance one of its biggest weaknesses.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard limits players to three towers on console
Players are frustrated by the lack of consideration given to the character limit
Bioware limits players to three Towers on the console at a time, with 100 save slots per character. This confused many players as it is very different from the other three games in the series. Dragon Age: Origins had a 10 character limit, despite being almost 16 years older than Guard of the Veil. Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition both had 50 save slots across all characters – while having 100 save slots per character is an upgrade compared to that, the overall limit of three separate slots left players frustrated.
Players can transfer the appearance of their Towers to future save files, but only if they are in available saves – meaning, to do so, players must sacrifice at least two of their save slots. However the simple solution is to delete your old towers to start overIt’s inevitable that people will become attached to your characters, especially those from your first playthroughs. Plus, with the complex character customization features in DA: The Guard of the VeilThere are thousands of combinations for Rook’s appearance, meaning each player character is truly personalized.
PC gamers are not as affected as console gamers; instead, they are limited to 10 character slots. However, this still limits the variety of content players can experience. For a game as big and long-awaited as Dragon Age: The Veil Guard, Having a limit like this seems nothing short of strange, especially considering how this wasn’t the case in the previous two games. In an age where replay value is one of the most important things for gamers, it’s no surprise that this upset a lot of people.
Players will not be able to romance all six companions while maintaining their defenses
BioWare Accidentally Derails Companion Romance
The most confusing part of the save file limit Dragon Age: The Veil Guard that’s how many options the game offers. Many players were very excited about the prospect of being able to create several different characters to follow different paths in the game. That is, there are seven companions in DA: The Guard of the Veil who join Rook and can be lovers. In similar and even previous games Dragon Age games, Players have been known to create their characters with the sole intention of dating a specific companion.
There are three classes in Guard of the Veil: Warrior, Mage and Rogue. While at first this seems to fit well within the three character limit, it starts to get complicated when you consider that Each of these classes has three specializations, bringing the number of possible combinations to nine. For example, the Dragon Age The YouTube channel featured Mage Spellblade, Death Caller, and Evoker specializations. Each specialization is associated with a faction, although Rook’s background and specialization do not need to be consistent. However, there are six possible factions, three of which have more than one specialization.

If players planned to romance certain characters while giving their Tower different origins and abilities, they’re out of luck. Dragon Age: The Veil Guard It has four playable bloodlines, six factions, seven romance routes, and nine class specializations. The fact that a significant portion of players are limited to three characters almost guarantees that they won’t experience everything the game has to offer. and greatly harms replayability. More than anything else, the game needs an urgent update that will allow players to make more Towers at a time.
Can the save file limit in Dragon Age: The Veilguard be ignored?
There is a way to make four or more towers, but it will annoy players
Technically, there are a few ways around Guard of the VeilAnnoying character limit, but none are necessarily ideal. The first way is to play on different profiles/accountsbut this is a tedious method and probably more trouble than it’s worth – no one wants to create completely new accounts just to access three saves. However, it appears to be the most straightforward way to get around the issue, as players can also save as much as the game allows to the cloud.
Aside from creating new profiles, it really seems like the only way to start a fourth playthrough is to delete one of your old characters entirely, meaning many players can’t return to their favorite moments from their previous playthroughs. While it’s not completely impossible to create more than four Towers, switching between accounts is an inconvenience that most players will not be willing to put up with. Ultimately, it feels like an odd oversight, especially for a game that seemed so focused on story variety.
There’s not much players can do right now about the save file limit, and the frustration can feel like a huge turn off from the very act of starting the game. When it comes to dating companions in Guard of the Veilplayers may feel like they have to pick their favorites, which is difficult in a game with as much content as Dragon Age: The Veil Guard.
