Memory is the key to several side quests in the Crossroads hub world of Dragon Age: The Veil Guardincluding a call “The Call of the Wolf.” As you explore details of the hidden history behind the rebellion against elven gods led by the character Solas, you find this specific memory. However, to fully understand its secrets, you must solve a complex puzzle within the memory itself.
The Crossroads area has several side quests that you can complete while investigating different sections of the area. Before you start adventuring in this place, you need to consider which party members to bring along with your protagonist character. Some companions Dragon Age: The Veil Guard may be better to employ than others, especially if you are playing a certain class.
How to Start the Call of the Wolf Puzzle
Beat enemies to progress through the side mission
You can start “The Call of the Wolf” side quest at the Crossroads while you perform another quest linked to companion Harding. During the “An unknown meaning” mission with Harding, you will have the option to revisit Arlathan Forest, an area within the larger hub world. When taking a Caretaker’s boat to reach Elvhenan Harbor, head west instead of east and ignore Harding’s search for now.
Going west will take you to an alternate portal that transports you to a memory, starting “The Call of the Wolf” instead of “An unknown sense.” At this point you will see the memory of a character named General Felassan preparing a squad of soldiers for battle. This takes you to an arena, where you have to fight against various elven soldiers defending the elven gods from Solas’s rebellion.
Each elven soldier you fight has resistance to fire damage, but is vulnerable to electricity. Use the right elements to take them down quickly in this side mission, as they are the only enemies you will have to face.
With updated equipment in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardthis fight shouldn’t be too challenging. Once you beat this encounter, you will witness a conversation between Solas and Felassan before entering a large room. This area has many trapped elves, which you have to free yourself to solve this area “puzzle.”
Wolf Call Puzzle Solution
Understand the logic of Fade to be successful
Prisoners in memory can only be freed when you have used an energy crystal to open the main gate from the area where the elves are trapped. To do this, you need collect a Wisp for the crystalbut this object is behind another gate that you need to unlock. Easy mistakes in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard can make this puzzle much more difficult, so be cautious when trying to find solutions.
Interact with the power crystal so it follows Rookthen go down the stairs behind where you found him. Here, there are even more descending stairs to the left and right, with the path to the right showing the Wisp you need behind the bars. Both paths have a junction at the bottom of the stairs where you can place the energy crystal on any node before proceeding.
Keep heading back from this location until you see another set of stairs leading to your right. This path leads to an energy projector that emits a beam of energy similar to the force that makes up the floating crystal. Interact with the projector to direct its beam to the remaining empty node where you didn’t place the power crystal before.
With both nodes powered up, the gate blocking your path to the Wisp will open. Simply walk towards Wisp to make him follow youthen take Wisp back to the main gate in front of the prison where did you find the power crystal to begin with. Doing so will free all the prisoners, solving the puzzle and leading you to the final fight of this side quest.
Defeating the final adversary in this memory will help you learn even more about the history of Solas’ Rebellion. You also receive a Wolf Statuette item in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard to resolve “The Call of the Wolf” puzzle, which will reveal additional secrets when you collect all six.
