Dragon Age: The Veil Guard does not integrate a utility called Dragon Age Keep. This online tool connected to your EA (formerly Origin) account and allowed you to load save data from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. Many of players’ key decisions in games can be viewed or edited. Most importantly, the Fortress could greatly alter the events of Dragon Age Inquisitionmake big and small decisions matter and increase replay value. When removing support from Keep, Guard of the Veil it lacks a genuine connection to the previous three games.
Dragon Age: The Veil Guard still has a great interpretation on its own. There are many important decisions in Guard of the Veil that can change the outcome of your narrative. However, these seem isolated only from the events of the fourth game. The actions of the Director-in-Command (who could be an entirely different person in Origins‘ Awakening expansion), Hawke and the Inquisitor seem unimportant and sometimes contradictory. By holding on to this nostalgia, DATV become much weaker or disruptive.
How Dragon Age Keeps Games Connected
An overview of all the top picks
The website Dragon Age Fortress I had a few options when starting: directly sending your people Dragon Age series saves files or using the default world states. The former can get a little complicated with missed or botched events, but players can fully examine the tapestry of everything they’ve accomplished and make changes to all sorts of decisions during Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. A player could originally romance Leliana in DAOfor example, but change his first love to Morrigan with Dragon Age Keep, at the same time Loghain impregnates her with the Old God’s baby.
It wasn’t just looking at the images and clicking on the instructions. The Keep included a World Lore section where you could zoom into locations and see what had previously happened in DAO and DA2. In specific cases, for example, looking at Orzammar was a note about how the player helped his brother Bhelen Aeudcan regain the thronedespite him leaving them for dead in the Deep Roads during the Dwarven Noble’s prologue.
Although there was a lot to do on the Dragon Age Keep website, the reward came from synchronizing the data at the beginning of a Dragon Age Inquisition game. Some changes were immediate, while others occurred within dozens of hours. For example, Alistair could live a pretty miserable existence having to rule alongside Anora. At one time, Loghain Mic Tir could still be hailed as a hero of Ferelden, but he hid from possible corruption among the Gray Wardens. Hawke sought out Loghain to work together, and they both followed the Inquisitor for a time.
This particular mission could end completely differently. At the time of release, many people, such as YouTuber DanaDucadoit had Alistair in the role of Loghain. Other players meet Jean-Marc Strouda Gray Warden who had a tense past with Anders and could save Carver or Bethany in Dragon Age 2. It all depended on the current world state of the Dragon Age Keep.
Dragon Age’s Returning Characters Are Weaker
Morrigan and Harding have a strange continuity
Instead of using the entire Stronghold, players can choose some of the Inquisitor’s decisions at the beginning of the game. Dragon Age: The Veil Guard. These are general events, like who they dated or their disposition towards Solas. However, the nuances of these characters’ personalities and deeper connections are missing.
One of the most predominant cast members is Morrigan, Witch of the Jungle. She played a huge role in DAO and it was also important DAIbut without the use of Keep, she can only really get around what happened in those games and how they must have greatly affected his present life.
His son, Kieran, is completely ignored as it is possible he was not even conceived during DAO. Morrigan will also always be cordial towards the Inquisitor, as the latter cannot canonically strip her of the power of the Well of Sorrows or trap two of Kieran’s three possible parents in the Fade. You could chalk it up to almost a decade, but old Morrigan always seemed like someone who held a long grudge.
In Dragon Age: The Veil GuardLace Harding seems really reckless and inexperienced. This is a huge downgrade for the Inquisition character, as she grew as a character during DAI and its expansion, Invader. One of the most unnerving moments is when she speaks fondly of Cullen Rutherford, who may she have sacrificed in certain plays DAI.
Cullen battled Lyrium addiction throughout his entire life. Dragon Age series. Although he is mostly clean, the Inquisitor can force him into substance abuse in DAI. This leads him to become an unstable street beggar at the end of Invader. It is Harding who tracks him down, with confusing rumors that she gave Cullen gold or left him with a knife to kill himself. This, of course, cannot be part of any of the characters’ personalities. Guard of the Veil story without Dragon Age Keep.
Other Dragon Age characters had to be omitted from Veilguard
Important characters are missing
Although the returning characters are inserted into the story, many others could not even appear in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard. These are mostly people who may die or take positions that are too important to give up. As previously mentioned, characters like Alistair, Loghain, Stroud, and Hawke can become involved in the Fade and possibly become trapped in it. When renouncing Dragon Age Keep, there is no way to take these choices into account.
Three main characters are missing DATV: Leliana, Cassandra and Vivienne. In DAIthey were all candidates to become the next Divine, given the nickname Victoria. Each of his campaigns had different policies and results, which could be completely contradictory DATVthe current tradition.
Leliana is progressive and completely dissolves the Circle of Mages. Cassandra is traditional and reestablishes the Circle of Mages and the Templars. Vivienne is the first Divine magician in history, leading to rebellion which she crushes with brute force; it reinforces the Circle of Mages, but allows mages to ascend through the Chantry. Yet, DATV You want all and none of these options to be chosen.
Other glaring omissions are two of the Inquisitor’s enemies – Calpernia and Samson. Which of these two harassed the Inquisition more depended on whether the player sided with the Mages or the Templars. The one who was not recruited ended up reinforcing Coriphaeus’ army in DAI.
Samson had a possible conclusion with a trial to imprison, exile or redeem him. It would have been a good follow-up to see what happened to him. However, Calpernia could escape completely if she was spared during their encounter. With possible survival, BioWare even considered making Calpernia a companion in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardaccording to The player. It is also theorized that Neve Gallus was made to replace Calpernia. as they have similar origins and connections to the Tevinter. Still, with such a connection to Corypheus, and in turn Solas, Calpernia deserved a role in the fourth game.
General, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard is burdened by connecting only loosely to the other three Dragon Age games. BioWare should have cut all ties or fully embraced its legacy. All of the tools and data were already in Dragon Age Keep, including all of the main power options. Dragon Age Inquisition. By omitting this feature, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard could have just been a new IP unrelated to the franchise.
