Throughout Boruto: Two Blue Whirlwinds manga, fans were able to see a much more sinister and violent version Kawaki. Gone was the stoic shinobi who idolized Naruto and wanted to work with his adopted brother to create a better world. Kawaki, shown in the first few chapters of the story, is manipulative, unapologetically allowing the world to blame Boruto for his misdeeds.
However, there is a small but important detail hidden early in the series that implies that Kawaki will begin to redeem himself at some point. Even though he claims to want to execute Boruto in Chapter #14, a flashback to their inevitable and devastating final battle hints that he also wants to protect his former ally.
Boruto is already revealing that Kawaki is not really a villain
Kawaki’s redemption will be the most important and controversial plot point in the series
In Chapter No. 14 Boruto: Two Blue Whirlwinds In the manga, Kawaki, Eida, and Deimon can be seen talking about Naruto’s son being interrogated by Konoha forces. When the younger android asks the adopted Uzumaki what he would do if his former friend revealed the secret of the Seventh Hokage’s abduction, Kawaki replies that he does not care. In his opinion, no one will ever believe Boruto, and he will have a chance to kill him, ridding the world of another Otsutsuki.
When Eida explains that Kouji’s student seems to be protecting Kawaki, he is shocked. Despite everything he had done to hurt Boruto, his former friend still refused to tell the truth, something he couldn’t understand. Naruto’s son has stated many times throughout the series that he wishes no harm to Kawaki, as he simply wants them to forget their struggles and become a family again.. His feelings may affect Kara’s former member, as evidenced by their conversation at some point in the future.
In the first chapter of the original Boruto manga, Kawaki tells his opponent that he will send him to the same place he sent Naruto and Hinata. Despite how ominous this threat may seem, the series has already revealed that the place is a protected pocket dimension where people can be kept unconscious to protect them from danger. This event largely implies that by this point in history Kawaki changed his mind about killing Boruto.and also wants to protect him from an unknown enemy.
Kawaki’s redemption could also be hinted at in chapter #13.
His desire to keep Boruto’s relationship with Kashin Koji a secret is unusual
While Boruto is captured in Chapter #13 Two Blue Whirlwinds In the manga, Kawaki can be seen walking around the area looking for anything suspicious. He encounters one of Kashin Koji’s toads, who is probably waiting to teleport Naruto’s son out of the Hidden Leaf. This detail doesn’t stick around for long in the series, as it only appears in a couple of panels. However, Kawaki instantly recognized the toad sent by Boruto’s new mentor, as he and Kouji were previously members of Kara.
Despite this, he does not reveal to the Elders the truth about who Boruto’s mentor is.although this would make the prisoner’s sentence much more severe. Koji is still considered an enemy of Konoha due to his affiliation with the terrorist group commanded by Isshiki. If Kawaki wanted, he could tell the village authorities that Boruto was working with a wanted criminal to make him look even worse in their eyes. The fact that he held back makes it seem like he is defending his opponent.
Another explanation could be that Kawaki is waiting for Boruto to let his guard down to find Kashin Koji’s location. Jiraiya’s clone was also infused with cells from the powerful and mysterious Shibai Otsutsuki, making him part of an alien clan. Kawaki’s mission to destroy all members of the otherworldly family may push him to find a place to destroy him. However, this hypothesis has no evidence, as Kawaki may have pushed the Elders to question Boruto about the clone’s location, but he did not tell them.
Kawaki undoubtedly one of the most intriguing characters Boruto: Two Blue Whirlwinds manga series. His character development will undoubtedly impact how the story progresses. Although he is currently Boruto’s enemy, the future may cause him to reconsider his goals and join forces with his former teammate again.
