The Tony and Ziva spinoff may need to use a controversial VFX tool to properly tell its story

NCIS: Tony and Ziva is making a bold decision about its timeline, and the series may need to use a controversial visual effects tool to properly tell its story. The series dives into the lives of Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s characters Tony and Ziva, star-crossed lovers in the original NCIS series that never reunited while both actors were cast in NCIS. The spinoff will be broadcast exclusively on Paramount+ and will tell the story of what is happening in Tony and Ziva’s lives, including an attack on Tony’s security company.

Both actors left the series about a decade ago. In season 11, de Pablo left NCIS, and Weatherly followed a few years later in season 13. Tony left after Ziva faked her death, leaving him with the task of raising a son he didn’t know he had. De Pablo returned to the series a few years after Weatherly’s departure, revealing that her character was in hiding and alive. When she left again, she went to join her family in Paris. So much has happened since then, and the NCIS: Tony and Ziva history will effectively fill in the gaps.

NCIS: Tony and Ziva’s story will begin a decade earlier

Agents will pick up where they left off

NCIS confirmed the Tony and Ziva spinoff timeline in a report from Deadlinerevealing that the series will begin a decade ago. De Pablo commented on the development during the program’s MIPCOM panel. She said: “In the first season, [fans are] I’m going to fix what happened.” Picking up 10 years ago benefits all audiences of the series, whether they are familiar with the original NCIS or not. If viewers are new to the series, the background will add context to Tony and Ziva’s current story. The timeline is even more exciting if viewers know the NCIS characters.

For those who have been following Tony and Ziva’s romance, scenes from 10 years ago will finally show their romance on screen. Although Tiva had a relationship between them and wouldn’t want it for almost a decade of NCIS, viewers never saw what it was like for the agents after they reunited. The reunion was undoubtedly heartfelt, if complicated, as Tony was raising their daughter, Tali, when Ziva joined them. Tony and Ziva had to learn how to be a family, while the duo also adapted to being an official couple. Still, going back in time will have some obstacles.

Due to its timeline, NCIS: Tony and Ziva may have to use De-Aging VFX

Agents looked younger 10 years ago. To maintain consistency, One option is to use visual effects in editing to make the actors’ faces appear less aged.but this could be controversial as it would alter your natural appearance. Yet, NCIS: Tony and Ziva needs to sell its timeline and can’t just cast actors to play young Tony and Ziva because audiences witnessed their early years. Since the flashback scenes span 10 years to the present, the series could maintain Tiva’s current appearance, utilizing filming and makeup techniques to rewind the clock while maintaining the actors’ authentic appearance.
