Stephen King adaptations have always been very popular on streaming services. However, months ago, one of the best TV shows based on King’s work has been removed from Disney-owned Hulu. Recently, the 2016 miniseries 11/22/63 has moved to Tubi, which will give new viewers a chance to discover the greatness of the time travel show. Although it is arguable that 11/22/63 remains Stephen King’s best TV show, a new series premiering in 2025 could be a worthy competitor.

Many Modern Stephen King TV Shows Have Been Disappointing

Although Stephen King adaptations date back to the 1970s, there have been many other TV shows based on the writer’s work over the past decade. However, several of them were disheartening. Show how Under the dome, The position, The fog, Lisey’s storyand others failed to impress the public. That’s not to say there haven’t been any standout Stephen King TV adaptations – The stranger and Castle Rock both received very strong reviews – but for the most part, critics and fans alike were disappointed with the newer TV shows.

To be fair, the same thing could be said about recent films based on Stephen King’s work. Since there are so many Stephen King adaptations being made, not all of them will be great. However, there are several other notable King films, many of which are considered incredible. The recently released Salem Lot, Firestarterand The Dark Tower may not have received rave reviews, but several truly exceptional Stephen King films have been praised by critics, such as This and Geraldo’s game.

11/22/63 is a TV adaptation worthy of Stephen King

In addition to the aforementioned The stranger and Castle Rock, 11/22/63 is another recent hit TV show by Stephen King. The cast of 11/22/63 includes James Franco, Sarah Gadon, George MacKay and Josh Duhamel. The miniseries holds an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and follows Jake Epping, who is offered the chance to time travel to 1963 to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Compared to some King adaptations, it actually makes sense that 11/22/63 it’s a miniseries rather than a movie.

THE 11/22/63 The miniseries is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name and is a refreshing change of genre compared to the other series and films mentioned. Although King is known for writing horror stories, 11/22/63 leans more heavily towards the science fiction and thriller genres. Plus, compared to some King adaptations, it makes sense that 11/22/63 it’s a miniseries rather than a movie. As Jake attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century throughout the show’s eight episodes, the intriguing plots and revelations keep viewers engaged throughout the show.

2025 could have a great Stephen King TV show

It: Welcome To Derry will feature Pennywse The Clown

Based on the first revelations about the series, there’s a chance that This: Welcome to Derry could become one of the best TV series based on Stephen King’s work. This: Welcome to Derry will debut at Max in 2025 and serve as a prequel to This and Chapter Two, two of the most popular Stephen King films of the last decade. Andy Muschietti, director of both This films, returned to develop Welcome to Derry alongside her sister Barabara Muschietti and screenwriter Jason Fuchs.

The 2025 series will expand the story of This and Chapter Twoand explore more about the origins of Pennywise the Clown, who will once again be played by Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd. Pennywise is often referred to as Stephen King’s best villainand Welcome to Derry is set to explore events from King’s This romance that were not included in the two films. Therefore, This: Welcome to Derry seems prepared to give previous shows like 11/22/63 give it a run for its money and could potentially become the best Stephen King TV series.
