Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Simpsons Season 36, Episode 8, “Convenience Airways.”
Although the revelation was contained in a quick, throwaway line of dialogue, The Simpsons secretly exposed a tragic twist in season 36 and may have set up his next big death in the process. While The Simpsons season 37 renewal has yet to be announced, the long-running show is currently undergoing something of a critical renaissance. The Simpsons increased its popularity with critics since the series' nadir around season 32, earning stellar reviews and leading YouTube Super Eyepatch Wolf creator will declare The Simpsons “Good again.” This is largely due to their creative risks.
While The Simpsons never gets old, the show has gotten better at disrupting its static status quo. The season 36 premiere was a bizarre universe.”Series finale” This threatened to change the entire reality of the series, while episode 6 of season 36 was an anthology made up of 13 different short stories. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror's second episode of season 36, “Treehouse of Horror Presents Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes,” was equally risky thanks to its November air date and the show's decision to adapt some lesser-known works by author Ray Bradbury.
The Simpsons Season 36 Implies Marge's Mom Needs Hospice Care
Marge mentioned convincing her mother to go to the asylum in episode 8
Those risks paid off, resulting in two landmark episodes that proved The Simpsons season 36 is not lacking in creativity. Season 36, Episode 8, “Convenience Airways,” was a similarly silly hit. Told through flashbacks, “Convenience Airways” saw Marge and Homer testify before Congress following an unspecified incident at the titular airline. Eventually, the episode revealed that Homer's role in the episode's story wasn't as villainous as it seemed, but that only happened after a series of major twists. One of those revelations was hidden in a throwaway line of dialogue that could soon be paid off in a later episode.
The Simpsons revealed that Marge's mother is nearing the end of her life during “Convenience Airways,” as Marge warned Homer not to misbehave on their shared flight. Returning to The SimpsonsThe first Thanksgiving episode, “Convenience Airways,” focused on the titular family at its worst. The Simpsons fought nonstop as they walked through an airport on their way to Marge's family reunion, and Marge wanted Homer so he wouldn't risk being banned from another airline for acting out. She said that if he did, future vacations would consist of visiting Marge's mother and trying to convince her of the merits of palliative care.
The Simpsons rarely references Marge's mother Jacqueline
Jackie Bouvier's age isn't entirely clear on The Simpsons
The news that Marge's mother may be nearing the end of her life is surprising, as The Simpsons plays fast and loose with the ages of its characters. Admittedly, this twist would make perfect sense if Marge and Homer had been born in the late '50s or early '60s, as is implied by Homer's driver's license in Season 4, Episode 16, “Duffless.” However, The Simpsons complicated Marge and Homer's birth dates over the yearsso now it's harder to find out the age of Marge's mother, Jackie Bouvier.
Marge's mother is rarely mentioned, although she appears to be around the same age as Abe Simpson in Season 5 Episode 21, “Lady Bouvier's Lover”.
In the Season 33 premiere, “Star of the Backstage,” Marge and Homer attended high school in the year 1999. Recently, in Season 36 Episode 4, “Shoddy Heat,” Homer was portrayed as a 10-year-old child in 1982. . While The Simpsons mocked Family Guy in season 36, the show's timeline is as clear as later adult animated sitcoms. It doesn't help that Marge's mother is rarely mentioned, although she appears to be around the same age as Abe Simpson in Season 5 Episode 21, “Lady Bouvier's Lover.” This outing was the most in-depth exploration of her character on the show.
The Simpsons Season 36 Set Up a Major Deadly Twist in Episode 8
Marge's mother could be the next character to die
In the years since Grandpa and Marge's mom dated, The Simpsons became more comfortable killing off recurring supporting stars. In recent years, the show's reticence to permanently kill off characters has largely disappeared with Season 35, Episode 14, “Cremains of the Day,” killing off Larry the Barfly before Season 36, Episode 2, “The Yellow Lotus ”, killed Nick the real estate agent. Since Marge's mother almost never appears but her death would have a huge emotional impact on the family, her passing could be a major twist after “Convenience Airways.”
Jacqueline Bouvier's death would be a big surprise in The Simpsons' 36th season.
Although The SimpsonsThe scariest Treehouse of Horror stories have a large body count, the show itself rarely killed off characters until recently. As such, Jacqueline Bouvier's death would be a huge surprise in season 36. However, it would allow The Simpsons to focus even more on Marge's internal world, something that made Season 35 stand out as one of the series' strongest efforts in years. Not only that, but the twist was perfectly foreshadowed by The Simpsons season 36, episode 8, mention of palliative care.
