Gabriel Basso's action thriller, The Night Agenthas a problem that needs to be fixed in the upcoming season 2. As one of the most watched shows on Netflix, The Night Agent is a resounding success because of its intriguing plot, fast pace and action-packed story. The show, based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, follows Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent assigned to answer calls from agents who are having trouble uncovering a conspiracy involving government officials.
After its successful first season, Netflix wasted no time in renewing the show. Since THE Night Agent Season 1 already covered Matthew Quirk's book in fullthe second season will be an original story. This gives creators The Night Agent Season 2 is the perfect opportunity to change one of Season 1's biggest problems.
The Night Agent Season 2 Needs Better Villains After Season 1's Disappointing Henchmen
At night Agent Season 2 should include more complex villains
In the center of The Night Agentof the conspiracy are billionaire Gordon Wick and Vice President Redfield. Gordon Wick hired two assassins, Ellen and Dale, to murder anyone who came close to discovering that they were behind the subway bombing. The two killers were the ones who killed several characters in the series, including Rose's aunt and uncle, Cisco and Monks.
Although both assassins are deadly, they are still disappointing villains who lack development and feel like cartoon antagonists who always appear in the right place at the right time but never quite make it. Predictably, Dale is killed by Peter and Ellen dies in The Night Agentseason finale, which means Season 2 will need new villains. The Night Agent season two should ensure its bad guys are more complex and engaging than Ellen and Dale.
Why The Night Agent's Season 1 Killer Side Story Didn't Work
The Night Agent season two should have had villains with a better story
The Night Agent does a great job of juggling multiple subplots. However, Ellen and Dale's side story has no place in the series. Both killers are hired gunmen and that's where their role in the show should have ended. Instead of, Ellen and Dale became a much bigger part of the series and gained a side story that wasn't necessary. Their subplot wasn't particularly interesting, which made it even harder to connect with them as antagonists.
Strangely, Ellen and Dale always managed to find Rose and Peter even when they shouldn't have been able to. Killers are supposed to be cold and meticulous, but Ellen and Dale are portrayed as cartoon villains, with Ellen wanting to lead a normal life and have children despite not wanting to quit her job. The Night Agent Season 2 is expected to have an all-new mystery and hopefully include better villains.
