in anticipation of the end, Screen Rant Interviewed Markella Kavenagh and Cynthia Addai-Robinson to discuss The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 finale, Nori and the stranger’s farewell and what it means for their future, as well as Míriel’s arrest and why she will not rest on her laurels to try to regain the ruling power of Númenor from Pharazôn.
Nori & the Stranger’s Farewell was “Bitter sweet“(but it is”Hope behind it“)
“… She knows that she now has another job to face…”
Screen Rant: What an epic finale to this season. Marcela, I would like to start with you. The strangers and Norrie part ways, and what a heartbreaking scene that was to watch. Can you talk to me about Nori’s decision to leave her friend behind and help the Storrs on their journey?
Markella Kavenagh: Yeah, I think that scene was such a joy to film. We did not know what would come up, and it was at the end of filming, too. I think it might have been one of the last scenes we filmed, so it was really quite moving for us as actors, because Daniel and I knew that, for now, at least, we weren’t going to see each other and play with each other. Others, for who knows. I think that for Nori it is very bittersweet, and this is the right thing for her at this point, because she knows that she now has another task that she has to face, and that she really has to fulfill it.
So, she’s not too sure what it entails exactly, but she knows it’s going to take a lot of work, and she’s going to have to really commit to the course. And that’s something that she accepts and feels, I think, quite honored, actually, to be a part of it. Because so much of her life so far, she’s been so curious about the unknown and so curious about how she can help the Harfoots and the world be a better place in general, in Middle-earth. So, that’s where she’s at, I think, in an emotional sense, and then with the stranger, it’s just about wishing him well for now. It’s heartbreaking, but there’s hope behind it, because I think she’s saying goodbye just for now.
mirel”Feels strong“In remaining in Númenor to be arrested
“I don’t think she’s just going to walk away to a jail cell.”
So many of the storylines of the finale end on a hope, except for Míriel here, who is in a very major problem when she faces Pharazôn, even after the sea trial almost put her back on the throne. What goes through Míriel’s mind when she is arrested for treason and faces him in the final scene?
Cynthia Addai-Robinson: Yes, I think she feels strongly in her decision to stay, I think she has no other choice, really. I think that she also feels strongly in her mind that through the task of Elendil to raise him with a very special sword, that she can really trust that the things that she passed on to him in her wisdom, that he received the Same wisdom. , and they will gather the troops for revolution. I don’t think you should stop her being in prison, it won’t stop you from thinking about what she can do next.
What’s your next move? And, you know, this is her next move in the context of Pharazôn being her cousin. This is someone she has known all her life, and knows very well, so I believe that she would be someone who would be anticipating his moves, would understand him in a very specific way, and so I would like to see how this manifests himself I don’t think she’s going to just walk away to a jail cell. I think she will make her plans, and maybe even lull him into a false sense of confidence that he thinks he has the power.
But she won’t just go away. And she also has people who believe in her. There are people who witnessed this miracle by the sea, and they believe in this triumph as she is the true leader. So, she has some Númenorians, we do not see all her fans, necessarily do not hear from them. But there would be people there, presumably, who would be behind her, so I think it would be cool to see something she can do from the inside.
