Netflix Territory ends with a twist that confirms who the main villain of season 2 should be. Throughout the first season, audiences are introduced to the central Lawson family, a dynasty of Cattle Barons who have run Marianne Station for generations. After Daniel Lawson’s death, Marianne’s fate is questioned as a succession conflict begins. This conflict not only has an impact on the Lawsons’ internal relationships, but external antagonists also begin to roam their lands, seeking to invade and take control.
Territory the end of season 1 saw the Lawsons and the Indian community in a fateful shootout with Campbell Miller and his men. Miller is another local cattle baron with a violent history, and it is generally implied that he is something of a gangster in the area. He is one of the main threats to the ranch in the first season, especially after Emily Lawson rejects him romantically. However, the Season 1 finale doesn’t show him working alone, as he is carrying out orders for a much larger threat. Campbell Miller may be out of the picture, but Sandra Kirby is not.
Sandra’s radioactive waste plan confirms her as the big villain of Territory season 2
Everyone will have to work against Sandra Kirby to survive
Territory season 1 sets up two potential antagonists to be the big bads of season 2, but Sandra Kirby seems most likely to be an overarching antagonist. She has cruel intentions towards the Lawson family and is willing to use anyone, even her own son, to cause harm to them. In the end, his interest in the farm, which has nothing to do with cattle, is revealed. Sandra hopes to use the land for enriched uranium and plans to use Marianne’s abandoned gold mines as radioactive waste storage.
Sandra Kirby’s plan would essentially make any livestock at Marianne Station unusable by health standards due to their proximity to waste. Any group with an interest in Marianne’s land or surrounding areas will be forced to unite against herwhich will be a challenge, given that she is a billionaire and international tycoon with access to more resources than all of them combined. Colin is another potential antagonist who could self-destruct his own family, but the first season showed glimpses that he could grow and become better.
Fighting Sandra could finally unite the Lawsons after Susie and Daniel’s deaths in the territory, season two
A common enemy is exactly what the Lawsons need
The Lawson family is divided throughout the first season. Colin and Graham have a lifelong conflict. Colin is suspicious of Emily. Marshall has no interest in associating with any of them. Episode 5 is the only moment in which they demonstrate that they are united by a common goal, but it is interrupted again by Susie’s death. Now that Colin suspects Emily of murdering her son, the fights will begin again in Territory 2nd season and Fighting Sandra Kirby may be the only thing that can rally the Lawsons to defend their land.
