Power Rangers is back and better than ever! Prepare for PRIME: a bold new era with a brand new cast of characters, excitement and attitude! In the wake of Marvel’s The Ultimates, get ready to experience a new team, a new mentor, and a threat to Earth unlike anything you’ve seen before. Angel Grove University students have a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire… but her existence cannot remain a secret for long. Groundbreaking Power Rangers writer Melissa Flores ushers the iconic Rangers mythos into the next era of adventure, joined by acclaimed artist Michael Yg (IRON FIST) to create an unmissable experience perfect for new readers and longtime fans alike!

On the plot, not much is known about Power Rangers Prime Except it will signal a new era for the franchise. The most that readers can speculate so far is from preview images and cover art like this. Mora’s cover showcases a modern – maybe futuristic – revamp of the Red Ranger from the Mighty Morphin team. The costume appears to sport armor over his body, most notably on the elaborately designed shoulder blades and the arms. Speaking of blades, The forearm blade is the most notable aspect of this suit.

There is a chance that the new Red Ranger is an entirely new character.

You have to think about it The sword should be retractable into the Tyrannosaurus rex gauntletThat alone makes for a cool design. Not to mention, it must be effective during hand-to-hand combat, meaning that if a fight turns deadly, the Red Ranger can unleash their sword at a moment’s notice, instantly making it one of the most practical—if not strongest— Power Rangers Weapons. Also interesting is that this Ranger seems to be emanating some sort of powerful essence on their other hand, suggesting more than just weapons as a source of power.

Who could be the New Red Ranger?

Potentially Lauren Shiba in a new costume

Lauren Shiba of Samurai is chased in Power Rangers Prime #1-5

One of the few things about this design is that, based on the character’s body design, the Red Ranger is a woman. There is a chance that the new Red Ranger is an entirely new character, perhaps one of the Angel Grove University students who graduated into a teenager with attitude. Alternatively, past solicitations and previews have already confirmed the return of Lauren Shiba, the Red Ranger from Power Ranger SamuraiWho has a knack for using swords. Shiba’s return and integration into a new Power Rangers Team may give you a new costume.

Power Rangers Prime #1 is available November 13, 2024 from BOOM! studios.
