Dynamite Comics is making the most of its new cartoon-based series
Neither the Thundercats nor the Powerpuff Girls are strangers to the world of comics. Marvel Comics produced a ThunderCats comic book through its Star Comics imprint for three years in the 1980s and later, DC Comics published some miniseries and one-shots under its Wildstorm imprint. During the height of The Powerpuff Girls popularity, DC released a graphic novel under its own imprint, while the property was later licensed to IDW Publishing. However, the Thundercats and Powerpuff Girls licenses were acquired by Dynamite Comics in 2023 in a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.
It’s no surprise that Dynamite is interested in bringing these two properties together, as The Powerpuff Girls and ThunderCats were embraced by fans everywhere. Not to mention, ThunderCats became one of the best-selling comics of 2024, with the first issue of the series selling over 170,000 copies. Is it a little strange to combine these specific properties? Perhaps. But it’s an intriguing idea, especially for fans of one or both properties. Not to mention that if it’s a success, Dynamite Comics could consider bringing some of its other licensed properties into future crossover stories below the line.
Dynamite Should Consider Other Wild Cartoon Crossovers
Imagine Space Ghost joining in on the fun
Dynamite’s deal with Warner Bros. Discovery included many other cartoons such as Space Phantom, Johnny Questand The Flintstones. If this crossover between ThunderCats and The Powerpuff Girls If it works, who knows what might happen next? Maybe some wacky adventures where Space Ghost enemies team up with Mumm-Ra or Johnny Quest goes on an adventure in Bedrock. Dynamite has a lot of great properties at its disposal right now, and it’s clearly making the most of them. Hopefully, the ThunderCats’ crossing with the Powerpuff Girls It’s just the beginning.
