THE Pokémon The anime starring Ash Ketchum ended almost two years ago, and even now, fans can't help but speculate about Ash's eventual return to the series. If Ash wants to return, though, there's one thing that needs to happen: he needs to age.
Pokémon Horizons He has been strong for some time now and has found his legs and started running. The new series is much more story-driven than the original series and is moving at a good pace, meaning there was no need to bring Ash back just to give the show a boost. Liko and Roy are strong enough protagonists to tell their story, and fans still get their regular dose of Pikachu from Captain Pikachu. That said, though, many fans would welcome Ash's reappearance in some form, even if he runs the risk of overshadowing the new heroes.

The idea of aging Ash Ketchum is popular among fans; Many expected Ash's final episode to show an elderly Ash in the future, still training years later, but that wasn't the case. The reason for the series' reluctance to let Ash age is due to the fear that he is no longer as relatable to the series' target audience, but that's a ridiculous fear.; other anime series such as narutoand the most famous, dragon ball, It had no problem aging its protagonists and became more popular as a result. When most people think of Goku, it's his adult form that they think of, not his child form.
Ash remained ten years old for over 25 years, and many fans, even before his departure was announced, felt it was time for a change. If Ash makes an appearance in Horizonsor maybe some other anime project in the future (like a Pokémon movie), then that feeling will still be true. Ash will have been gone for a long time now and it would be a little disappointing to see him exactly as fans left him years ago. At least to reflect the time that has passed, Ash should age and be redesigned for any new appearances he might make.
Pokémon wasn't afraid to age up Ash's video game buddy Red, for example. Red appears as the protagonist of Red and Blueas the final optional boss of Gold and Silverat the Pokémon World Tournament Black 2 and White 2and finally in Sun and Moonas a 20-something adult. Red and his rival, Blue, appear as adults in the Battle Tree in Alola for the first time Pokémon the protagonist has aged substantially. If Red can age, so can Ash.

While many fans would like to see Ash age up to adult status like Red, there's no reason for that to be the case. Ash could only age two years and still show significant differences from his ten-year-old self.. There would certainly be no harm in making him as old as Brock was at the start of the series, about 15 years old. What really needs to be shown is simply that Ash has grown and changed during his time out of focus, and 5 years would show that just as well as 10 or 15 years.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a sentiment shared only among fans; the producers of Pokémon We've indicated in the past that if Ash appears again, we expect him to be the same ten-year-old boy we've known and loved for the past 25 years. It's a frustrating idea, but it's not written in stone; the producers can (and should) reconsider their stance on Ash's age. After all, if Ash reappears, he will no longer be the protagonist, so him being particularly relatable to the audience isn't as big of an issue as it once was.
Simply put, viewers need some indication that Ash has been exploring and growing stronger even during his time off-screen, and the easiest way to do that is to have Ash physically age. This also puts Ash in a position to mentor Liko and Roy should he appear in Horizonsand offers the ability to attract new audiences should he reappear in a film. If Ash wants to have something more than just a cameo, then Pokémon It must age him.
