A lot of Baldur’s Gate 3 The first act revolves around Emerald Grove, a safe haven for druids that is currently under threat. With goblins trying to enter and a group of Tiefling refugees seeking shelter, tensions within the grove are rising, and Kagha, their current leader, plans to perform a magical rite to isolate the grove from the outside world. This rite, the Ritual of Thorns, requires a special idol to take place: the Idol of Silvanus, which players can find in the center of the woods.
For players who want to stop the Ritual of Thorns and stop the druids from driving out the Tieflings, stealing this idol becomes an early quest. But getting the item is harder than some realize, and it’s even harder to steal it without causing more bloodshed. But youhere are some ways to get the Idol of Silvanus while keeping the peace in the woodsand committing the theft still allows players to give the idol to someone who needs it.
What is the idol of Silvanus guarding?
How strong is Druid security?
The Idol of Silvanus is deceptively well guarded, despite being loose in the center of a public area. When the players arrive at the grove, the idol is being used to conduct the Ritual of Thorns, and several druids stand nearby, looking directly at him. Distracting all of these druids from their tasks at once is nearly impossible to accomplish, and if any of them see a player trying to take the idol, they will stop them before they can.
The first thought many players will have is to use magic to hide, with something like fog cloud
or darkness
or even invisibility
. But these approaches don’t work with the idol. Area-of-effect spells that obscure the NPC’s vision appear to be dispelled in the idol’s immediate vicinity, and invisibility or stealth almost always fail when players reach the idol’s position. But even if they worked, this approach would still cause problems in the woods.
Preventing a war in the Druid’s Grove
Prevent the Druids from blaming the Tieflings
The main problem with stealing the druid’s idol is not the act itself, but its repercussions. If the players actually manage to remove the idol from its pedestal, the druids will immediately blame the tiefling refugees. This starts a battle in the middle of the woods, which can lead to the extinction of several characters on both sides and the failure of many missions in the woods during the first act. To avoid this, it is important to steal the idol at a specific point in the story.
It is important not to defeat the goblins before stealing the idol, as this will change the tieflings’ status and remove the idol from its place.
The key is to investigate Kagha before stealing the idol and completing your mission to quell some of the tensions in the grove. Kagha is working with another group of druids who plan to take control of the grove and discovers that her plans will allow the players to confront her.
This leads to a fight with Kagha and the shadow druids hiding in the woods, during which Kagha may die or be taken to the player’s side. After that, the Ritual of Thorns stops, the tension between the tieflings and the druids eases, and Druids will no longer blame tieflings if the idol disappears.
Not only that, but many of them will leave their posts around the idol, meaning there will be fewer eyes on it during the robbery. At this point, there is a pretty funny way to steal the idol with little repercussions on a consistent basis. Have a character in the woods steal the thing in broad daylight and get caught by the druids. They will knock out the characters and put them in makeshift cells. But while the idol is in the character’s inventory when he is knocked out, he will not return to his pedestal; instead of, it will be in the evidence chest, which is locked but completely unguarded.
Where to take the idol after stealing it
A certain Tiefling will pay well for this magical item
At this point, it’s as simple as escaping the cell and picking the lock on the chest to take the Idol of Silvanus without anyone noticing. From there, players can keep the idol or take it to a certain Tiefling who can use it. This is Mol, the leader of the gang of child thugs hiding in a cave in the woods. Mol wants to sell the idol in Baldur’s Gate to help his gang of children reach the city and become established thieves.
Giving the idol to Mol doesn’t change his relationship with the group, other than changing a few lines of dialogue in the first act. She can still be recruited as an ally in Act Three anyway.
Giving the idol to Mol is not just charity. She will reward the player with a rare Protection Ring
a powerful ring in BG3The beginning of the game is very more useful than the magical effects of the Idol of Silvanus. It is important to receive Mol’s quest to steal the idol before interrupting the Ritual of Thorns, however, as Baldur’s Gate 3 may fail and prevent the player from giving it to her otherwise. Still, this strategy is a pretty foolproof way to interrupt the druid’s rite, steal the idol peacefully, and get rewarded for it.
