To be fair, Skeleton Crew there was fierce competition. Still, Lucasfilm will be very disappointed to see that the latest show didn't crack the Luminate top 10.

What Skeleton Crew's performance means for Star Wars

This is disappointing… or was it to be expected?

Skeleton Crew seems a bit more like a niche project, aimed purely at the core Star Wars fandom – although, admittedly, with the hope that members of the fandom will share it with their children. Unfortunately, it seems like it has struggled to reach the average viewer, meaning it hasn't appealed to people. It doesn't help that Google Trends data suggests audiences are interacting with Star Wars TV shows as a single stream rather than as individual programs, which means there's the kind of downward trend you typically see across multiple seasons.

The interesting question, though, is whether Lucasfilm actually took this into consideration Skeleton Crew. It really feels like everything the fandom could want; a fairly lighthearted adventure, no controversy, lots of Easter eggs, and just an overall sense of fun. Lucasfilm may well be quite pleased with the receptionalthough the viewership is not as high as would be expected.

Our take on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – and more

Exactly what Star Wars needed right now

THE Star Wars the fandom is not in a healthy place right now. Following The AcolyteIt truly feels like something has broken and desperately needs to be rebuilt. Skeleton Crew is certainly the first step towards achieving that, something that avoids controversy and reminds fans what they love about the franchise. It provides a basis for Star Wars to build, and that could very well be the best thing it could have been at this point.
