The new era of Captain America officially begins as Marvel celebrates Sam Wilson with the final tribute to the hero’s most iconic moments

: Brave new world soon approaches theaters, Marvel Comics has debuted a new line of variant covers that celebrate Sam Wilson’s Captain America while also paying homage to Steve Rogers before him. Starting next January, Marvel is releasing five exclusive variant covers, each reminiscent of an iconic Captain America comicuntil the film’s release next February. These classic covers are sure to impress Cap fans new and old.

Starting with Avengers #22, Wonder salutes Rogers’ sixty-plus year tenure as Captain America, while also embracing Sam Wilson’s tenure of the title. Wilson has been Captain America for almost a decade, but he has yet to prove that he deserves the title.

Whether by skeptics on and off the page, Wilson has continually been held to a high standard that anyone flying the Stars and Stripes should be held to, albeit with more scrutiny than Rogers ever faced. However, these new variant covers prove that Sam Wilson has always been worthy of the title.
