Zara died the worst and most terrible death in all of history. Jurassic Park franchise when she was killed in Jurassic Worldand movies still haven’t come close to surpassing it. THE Jurassic Park the series has been horribly killing off its characters since the beginning. In the first film, bloodsucking lawyer Donald Gennaro was eaten in the bathroom by a T. rex and Dennis Nedry was splashed with the venom of a Dilophosaurus in his car. The franchise wouldn’t make the most of its dinosaur-infested premise if the dinosaurs didn’t kill people in every other scene.
Part of the fun of these films is seeing dinosaurs running wild and killing innocent victims. In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdoma mercenary was eaten while stealing an Indoraptor tooth as a souvenir. In Jurassic World Dominiona guy got eaten on a scooter by an allosaurus. But not all deaths in Jurassic Park franchise has been so fun to watch. One of the deaths in Jurassic World was so deeply disturbing that it stood out from the rest of the film – and even the rest of the franchise – as a drastic shift in tone.
Zara’s death in Jurassic World is by far the worst death in the franchise
Claire’s Innocent PA Dies a Far More Horrible Death Than Even the Baddest Villains
In the first Jurassic World film, Claire Dearing is introduced as the park’s operations manager. Her nephews Zach and Gray come to visit her at the park, but she’s such a workaholic that she can’t take a few hours off to show them around. Instead, she hands them over to her personal assistant, Zara Young, to give a tour. It’s established that Zara is a good person, just trying to do her job and get through the day, and she is engaged to a man named Alec.
When all hell inevitably breaks loose and the dinosaurs turn on their captors, Zara’s gruesome death turns into a dark joke.
So when all hell inevitably breaks loose and the dinosaurs turn on their captors, Zara’s gruesome death turns into a dark joke. A Pteranodon swoops down, picks her up and carries her to the sky. He throws her into the Jurassic World Lagoon, where another Pteranodon nearly drowns her, before the Mosasaurus emerges from the water and swallows her. Zara’s death drags on for an uncomfortably long time and, tone-wise, sticks out like a sore thumb in a film that is a light-hearted action adventure for most of its running time.
Generally, when a Jurassic Park movie shows the death of a character in all his terrible glory on screen, it’s because he’s an evil character who deserves what is coming to them. Gennaro is the unscrupulous lawyer who abandoned John Hammond’s grandchildren to die. Nedry was the one who turned off the power and allowed the dinosaurs to escape. But Zara died a much longer, more painful and more horrible death than any of themand she did nothing to deserve it.
Fallen Kingdom & Dominion didn’t even try to top Zara’s Jurassic World death
How could they?
There were many death scenes in the two sequels that followed. Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom and Domainbut none of them tried to top how horrible Zara’s death was in the first one. There is a death in Fallen Kingdom this is arguably even sadder than Zara’s death. After the volcanic eruption, as the survivors flee the island in ships, they spot a lone Brachiosaurus that was left behind, being engulfed by the lava. But it’s not drawn into dark comedy – it’s played in an appropriately emotional way – and it’s not gory; It’s simply disturbing.
It is possible that the Jurassic World the producers realized that Zara’s death was in poor taste and decided not to go down that path again. But even if they wanted to move on from Zara’s death in the sequels, there was no way to do so. Zara’s Death has three horrible character deaths rolled into one: being carried into the sky, drowning in a tank of water and being eaten alive by a giant aquatic dinosaur. The writers could have split this into three separate character deaths, but they botched all of those scenarios into a single undeserved death.
Jurassic World may never have another death this horrible
Jurassic producers appear to have heard the backlash
Next year, the Jurassic World the series will continue with Gareth Edwards Jurassic World Rebirthbut it is unlikely to feature a death as gruesome as Zara’s. In fact, it is unlikely that a Jurassic World the film will go so far again. After Zara’s death, there was a lot of public backlash which questioned why the sequence was so unnecessarily brutal and drawn out. Based on reduced deaths from Fallen Kingdom and Domainit seems that the Jurassic World the producers heard this reaction and accepted it.
