Kevin Costner discussed how difficult it has been to bring his Horizon movies for life. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was released theatrically in June 2024 and was supposed to be followed by Chapter 2 in August 2024, but the sequel’s release date has been pushed back. Costner leads the cast of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1which also includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone and Luke Wilson. THE Horizon The story of the films follows several characters traveling and settling in the American West during the Civil War.
As reported by IndieWireCostner claims that filming the Horizon films was one of the most difficult challenges of his life. For all Horizon films, Costner plans to act in them, as well as direct, write and produce. However, he emphasizes that he continued to work on Horizon films because he feels like it’s a story he needs to tell. Read Costner’s full quote below:
The making of Horizon: an American saga It was the most challenging journey I have ever undertaken. At my heart, I am a storyteller, and arguably there has been no greater narrative than the arduous journey of men and women across America in pursuit of a dream. Their dream was passionately fought for and achieved by only a few and even then only through the blood, sweat and tears of the many. Following these dreams toward the West resulted in nightmares for the people who lived and prospered there for centuries. This was a story I needed to tell.
I wanted to go beyond the myth and tell the story of ordinary people who create a new chapter in America’s history in the midst of the savagery of conflict, across vast distances, in a country at war with itself. Everyone was captivated by the uncertain promise of a better future: traders and trackers, surveyors and settlers, missionaries and soldiers, lawmen and bandits – people just making their way. I wanted to tell their story through the lens of families, friends and enemies, all trying to change their destinies. From European settlers to White Mountain Apaches, from Chinese traders to Pima cavalry scouts, each wrote their own story, entering unknown and unknowable chapters.
Costner wants to make Four Horizon: An American Saga
Unfortunately, the first Horizon the film was not critically and commercially successful. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 it has a score of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed just $38 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $100 million. After the failure of the first film, New Line Cinema removed Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 of your release schedule. Although the company initially claimed it was delaying the launch of Horizon Chapter 2 Until viewers have had time to discover the first film on streaming, a new release date has not yet been announced.
The future of the Horizon series is now very uncertain. Costner stated that he wants to make four films in the series and has previously expressed his desire to film Horizon 3 and 4 back to back in the spring of 2025. Based on Costner’s comments, he seems dedicated to finishing this story, so it’s likely he’s pushing to get it done. Horizon Chapter 2 released soon, so will try to film the last two films in the series.
Making additional sequences may be more difficult
It’s not a surprise to hear Costner claim that filming the Horizon movies was one of the hardest things he’s ever done. Horizon Chapter 1 is an epic western with a multitude of characters and is only the first film in the series. Horizon Chapter 2 is probably even bigger, and its plans for additional sequels are probably very ambitious as well. Although the future doesn’t necessarily look bright for the Horizon series, hopefully Costner will finish the story he started.
