Together, they forever changed Saturday Night Live.
While Adam McKay is credited with creating the concept of Saturday Night Lives digital shorts, The Lonely Island made the comic (and typically musical) video shorts popular. As a result, the comedy trio helped transition the late-night sketch series into the digital age and helped the show adapt to the new standard for the entertainment industry in the mid-2000s. Unfortunately, the lonely island eventually left Saturday Night Live But sporadically returned to develop new skits, including during season 50, episode 2, on October 5, 2024.
The Lonely Island’s “Sushi Glory Hole” SNL Short & Lyrics
Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, & Akiba Schafer return to SNL
The Lonely Island made a special guest appearance in the form of Saturday Night Live Season 50, Episode 2, “Nate Bargatse; Coldplay.” Andy Samberg and Akiba Schafer star in a digital short, “Sushi Glory Hole,” Written by all three members of The Lonely Island and DJ Nu-Mark. The video stars Samberg and Schaffer playing two businessmen giving a pitch (which involves putting holes in public toilet stalls for people to eat sushi out of) to three investors, played by Maya Rudolph, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. Per GeniusThe lyrics to “Sushi Glory Hole” (some of which Saturday Night Live censored) are:
(Zamberg)
Sushi Glory Hole, imagine that
Sushi Glory Hole, imagine that
Instead of weird d*ck, you’d get a snack
(creator)
High-end fish, no doubt
Hey, where are you going?
(together)
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us! Out!
Hear us!
(creator)
Hey! where are you going
(still together)
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out!
Sushi Glory Hole
(Zamberg)
Makes too much mother**king sense not to do that
Fish through a hole
You know it’s not nothing to him
And there’s no scenario in which you wouldn’t want it
So drop to your knees, open wide and get ready for some rice
(together)
with fish on
Rice with fish on it
Hear us out
(creator)
You have nothing to fear
Sushi Glory Hole
It’s a good idea and it’s not weird
So hear us out while we tell you
What these concepts are all about
(together)
Sushi. Being. Fed. by. a hole in. The wall
(creator)
where are you going (Where are you going?)
(together)
Hear us out!
(Zamberg)
You forgot to eat
Now you’re out and about
But you want to be discreet
You can’t eat in the middle of the street
No!
Then you open the application SGH is over the map
So you go to a club, hit the bathroom stall
Find the sushi size hole in
The bathroom wall, then make a wish and prepare for
Some shockingly high grade fish
(together)
where are you going
Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back, come back!
Hear us out! Hear us out, hear us out!
Hear us out! Hear us out!
Hear us out, hear us out!
(Zamberg)
You know I’m crazy about Yuzu
Why would you usually do it
If you have fund approval
You are who we are trying to get through
(creator)
Hi. And no gimmicky rolls
Only severe nigiri come out of the holes
(Zamberg)
and no substitutions or special requests
And no d*ck and no sex
That’s two stalls over
So you’ll want to make sure you arrive sober
Because none of them are labeled
And full disclosure
There is a chance that you will get ad*cc
But it is worth it because the quality of fish
(creator)
Yes
The flavor you get outweighs the risk
(together)
Don’t let, don’t let, don’t let, don’t let
where are you going Come back!
Hear us out
Don’t go away
(Zamberg)
In a sex club when you need stamina for sex
But forgot to eat, back soon
(creator)
Sushi Glory Hole
(Zamberg)
In a sushi restaurant where you do not like the food
In the back of the bathroom:
(together)
Sushi Glory Hole
Sushi Glory Hole
Don’t go away
Besides Samberg, Schafer, Rudolph, Thompson, and Yang, others Saturday Night Live Cast members appearing in “Sushi Glory Hole” include Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker. All of them play men and women who find themselves in situations where they need a “sushi glory hole.” For example, Fineman’s character has bad sushi in a restaurant. So, she goes to the bathroom to be fed good sushi through a hole in one of the stalls.
The SNL return of The Lonely Island was worth the 6-year wait
The comedy trio has not appeared on SNL since 2018
Sometimes, when comedians return to Saturday Night Live After many years gone, their appearances do not live up to expectations. Fortunately, this is not the case for The Lonely Island. Their sketch was the furthest thing of disappointment in Saturday Night Live Season 50, Episode 2. “Sushi Glory Hole” feels like a classic desert island digital short – It’s catchy, hilarious, extraordinary, and everything you could hope for in a music video from the comedy trio.
