Mufasa: The Lion King It passed a major box office milestone, cementing it as a 2024 hit. The film is a photorealistic CG-animated prequel to 2019. The Lion King. It follows the future king Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) and the formation of the rivalry between him and his adopted brother Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), later known as Scar. Although the original film grossed $191.8 million and grossed over $1 billion, the Mufasa The opening weekend was well below expectations at the domestic box office, with just US$35.4 million, ranking second behind Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Put Variety, Mufasa: The Lion King has now grown to a total of $328 million worldwide after just nine days in theaters. While its global debut also fell short of original projections, this rapid rise beyond the $300 million mark sees the prequel film cement itself as one of the biggest hits of the year so far. It already ran past Sonic (which just surpassed the US$200 million mark), becoming the 18th film to gross more than US$300 million in 2024 and surpassing The Wild Robot$324.2 million to become the 17th highest-grossing film of the year so far.
