The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Many dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features a Talus boss that you can defeat for rewards, including one made entirely of flames. Discovered through a side quest, the Flame Talus is one of the toughest elemental enemies you can challenge. However, targeting a specific weakness can easily overcome this struggle and earn you valuable rewards.

You cannot fight the Flame Talus until you complete the Eldin Temple dungeon in the main story. Similar to the Eastern Temple in Echoes of Wisdomthe place where you find the Flame Talus is an optional dungeon. To reach the right area, close the rift that encapsulates the Eldin volcano and the surrounding regions.

How to Find the Flame Talus Boss

Start a side quest and reach the volcano’s peak

The path to the Flame Talus begins when you talk to an NPC named Darston at the top of the Eldin volcano. Navigating the lava lake outside the Lizalfos Lair area will help you reach the peak of the volcano where this character is waiting. When you talk to Darston, you can start the “A mountainous mystery” side quest that requires you to enter an optional dungeon called Summit Cave.

The Flame Talus is within the Cavern, as well as many different rooms designed to challenge your skills. With many spaces filled with hot lava, you will have to manipulate the environment to overcome dangers and delve deeper into the dungeon. A side mission in Echoes of Wisdom will ask you to use specific abilities like Bind to grab rocks and other objects in rooms to help navigate them.

The dungeon has three chambersand they all contain environmental puzzles for you to solve. Lots of enemies are here too, so don’t be afraid to summon multiple Echoes to help fight these enemies before they can hurt you. After passing through the final chamber, you will find yourself in the arena where the Flame Talus boss can be found.

How to defeat the Flame Talus

Disconnect this creature’s core

The Flame Talus is immune to most attacksbut its core can be pulled out and hit to damage the boss. Your objective throughout the two phases in which you fight the Flame Talus is use Bind to detach the blue orb at the base of your body without getting burned. Once the orb is free, you can use your Swordsman form to deal damage to the boss before it reforms again.

Don’t forget to upgrade his Swordfighter form using Might Crystals so he needs fewer hits to damage the Flame Talus and force him to switch to the next phase of his boss fight.

The boss’s attacks are very similar to those of the Seismic Talus in Echoes of Wisdom you must have already faced. However, the Flame Talus causes persistent fire with your attacksmaking it harder to stay safe in the boss arena. Watch out for these attacks during both phases of the fight:

Attack

Description

How to counter

Fire Fist

Flame Talus throws one of his fists towards where Zelda is, creating a flaming projectile that takes up a lot of space.

Recognize when the boss reaches back to do this attack and keep moving to the side until the projectile is fired back to where you were.

Flaming Spin

Pulling both hands away from himself, Flame Talus spins his arms in a circle, damaging anything that gets too close.

Run away from the boss to avoid the large radius of this attack when you see it starting.

Elemental Strike

Flame Talus raises both of his hands into the air before slamming them down in front of him, causing a small shockwave of earth to erupt.

Try to get behind the boss or use an Echo to make him hit something made of water to extinguish his flames.

Flame Talus can expose his orb to long-range attacks from his Swordsman or Echoes form during any of these attacks. Use Bind or any attack to dislodge the orb and attack it as much as possible to transition the boss into its second phase. During the second phase, the boss orb is harder to expose and attacks are much faster.

Summons Echoes made of water to put out the fire in the Flame Talus’ body and make its orb more noticeable. Doing this multiple times will allow you to remove the orb again and damage the boss once more. Do this enough times and you will defeat the boss and be rewarded with:

The rupees you earn will allow you to purchase items to make you stronger, while the Heart Piece is one of four you can collect to increase your maximum health. This easy-to-obtain Piece of Heart will also mark the end of the “A mountainous mystery” mission, giving you another nice reward when you defeat the Flame Talus in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
