By the time Zelda finishes rebuilding Goron City and Eldin Volcano in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomThere are still many quests and people who can help. The Mountain Mystery side quest is a fun mission where the player has to solve puzzles to avoid a lava-filled death. These puzzles can be quite challenging and getting the quest can be confusing. However, finding and completing this quest is worth it.
The side quest "Secret of the Mountain" rewards players with Rupees, a Heart Piece, and a Goron Bracelet. Players will have to go through three large areas and fight a boss; however, they are easy to complete if you know what to do. The only echoes needed for this quest are the water echo, the stone slab echo, and the Twilus echo. The player should already have them if they have met all the prerequisites listed below. This way, there is no need to prepare for anything more than just receiving the quest.
How to unlock the side quest "The Secret of the Mountains"
Several prerequisites are required
Before receiving the "Secret of the Mountain" side quest, you must complete several prerequisites in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. First, you need to complete the Rift in the Eldin Volcano main quest. This main quest involves completing the Temple Dungeon and eventually defeating the boss there. Once you complete this, you will meet someone in Goron City who will say that they haven't seen their leader Daran in a long time. Your task is to find him.
Daran explores the cave but hasn't returned, so an NPC will ask you to help find him. This will add a quest to your map to find them. You will have to teleport to the Lizalfos hole. It's pretty far into the game, so you'll probably have to complete a lot of dungeons already. Travel to Eldin Volcano northwest of Koriko Village. To get here, you will have to already walk along the Eldin Volcano Trail.
While in Eldin Volcano, head to the area near the entrance, but next to the lava. There is a map above showing exactly where. On the left you will see a wall. Use the water echo to climb up the wall. From there, go straight up and then right to go through the entrance to Summit Cave. Once inside the cave, you will see an orange NPC named Daran who you can talk to, which will begin the quest in earnest.
Walkthrough "The Mystery of the Mountains"
Passage of the first area
After finishing the conversation with Daran, go further into the cave. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. There will be a rock next to the lava, just push it. Once the stone is in the lava, stand on top and wait for the lava to lift it higher, like in an elevator. From here, go around the corner and climb up the wall. From here, jump onto the elevator stone and then onto the wall next to it. From here, make a new slab and place it where another lava pillar rises. Now you can safely jump onto the cliff.
Connected
The next area requires you to simply jump from rock to rock. Jump on any rock that's already there, and make new slabs whenever you find a lava pillar that doesn't have one. Go forward, then right. The slab system here is a bit tricky because each new slab you create causes the previous one to be lost. Instead, just grab the slab at the bottom of the screen and use it as the first slab, then make one for the second jump.
Don't try to make a slab while jumping; this will cause you to immediately fall into the lava.
Second zone
Once you pass the last area in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomyou will find yourself in a new place with burning areas. This part is pretty easy: just walk around the area and avoid staying in the grass as much as possible. The fire monsters around will set the grass on fire, so stay away from them. Alternatively, you can just stand still and wait for the tall grass to burn, then just walk through. Don't touch the fire monsters because they will knock you back, which can throw you into the lava.
When you reach the end, jump over the rocks and go straight up. There is a wall you can climb up, use it to get higher. From here, as before, use the nearby slab to set up your first jump, and make a stone slab for your second jump. This will allow you to easily walk past the lava. After passing the lava, go down the stairs to reach the next area.
Third zone
This territory is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom It's a side scroller, so it's a lot simpler than before. Finish going down the stairs and wait for the lava to start going down so you can go down the next stairs. Once you see him going down, stay as close to him as possible because you need to get to a climbable spot before the lava returns. Climb up as quickly as possible, but watch out for the flaming slugs on the wall.
Once you reach the top platform, feel free to grab the chest with rupees because you are safe in this area. Unfortunately, this is just a rest area and you will have to get down and move on to the next place as quickly as possible. Climb each ladder at the end of the path until you reach the top. Then wait for the lava to rise again before moving forward. Patience is the key to solving this puzzle.
Before you go down, beat up the slug. Otherwise, it will come back and knock you down.
Finally, before heading down the stairs to the final area, prepare Twilus' Echo. Get four Twiluses to swing people in a row and just walk to the other side. You can use the lava as a makeshift elevator to get to the top. From there, you can jump down and climb the stairs to get out of this area. Now there is a chance to get one of the heart pieces.
Boss Battle
Before going through the cave entrance and fighting the boss in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdommake your bed and rest. The boss has a basic attack that involves throwing a rock meteor at you. You can avoid this quite easily. Your task at the first stage is to simply grab the ball under you and pull it. Once you do this, it will disappear and you can simply hit the ball a few times. In the second stage, a spin attack will be added to the boss's move sets, but the ball will move to the right shoulder.
Wait until the boss tries to throw a burning rock at you before trying to pull the ball out like you did before. The firestone attack leaves the ball on the shoulder completely exposed. From there, simply pull it back like you did before and hit the ball a few times. The next stage will introduce a powerful attack and the ball will move to the boss's head. Do your best to avoid the boss.
At this point the boss is too hot to be captured. Place water whenever the boss gets too close so that he can hit the water and cool down. Once you've cooled it down completely, wait for another attack. The boss takes a while to get up after being hit and leaves him open for you to grab. Pull the ball out as usual and hit it a few times.
At the last stage, the ball will move to the back of the monster. Cool it as before with water until it stops burning. The next time the boss completes an attack, you will need to grab and pull the ball. Finally, hit the ball as hard as you can and it will finally be defeated. From here, simply leave the cave and the NPC at the entrance will disappear because you have successfully completed the Secret of the Mountain mission in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
