One week later Venom: The Last Dance arrived in theaters, the Sony Marvel film’s box office has officially surpassed that of two notable box office bombs. Although Poison and Venom: Let There Be Carnage each was successful at the box office, Poison 3 has struggled a bit, earning just $51 million domestically in its opening weekend. Reviews for Venom: The Last Dance were largely negative, but that’s what happened with the previous Poison films; public reception to Tom Hardy’s Marvel films has always been much more positive.
Still, it seems that Venom: The Last Dance could become the lowest-grossing film in the trilogy. When Poison released in 2018, it grossed US$856 million at the box office, while Venom: Let There Be Carnagewhich premiered in the 2021 post-pandemic theatrical landscape, grossed $506 million. For now, it seems unlikely that the Venom: The Last Dance box office will equal or surpass any of the above Poison film, but it has already surpassed two other Marvel box office bombs in recent years.
According to Mojo Box Office, Venom: The Last Dance Box office currently stands at US$184 million worldwidewhich is more than the entire box office revenue of both Morbius and Lady Teia. Launched in 2022, Morbius earned a meager $167 million. About that, Lady Teia It hit theaters earlier this year and grossed even less at the global box office, with a final total of $100 million.
What Venom: The Last Dance’s Box Office Update Means
Not the biggest bomb in Sony’s Spider-Man universe
Venom has always been the biggest moneymaker in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, and it’s clear that remains true, even if Venom: The Last Dance it’s not reaching the heights of its predecessors. It’s unclear why exactly Poison 3 isn’t making much at the box office, either due to the lack of a crossover with the MCU’s Spider-Man or because new villain Knull isn’t a household name enough to attract audiences. Or it could be the result of waning interest in Sony’s Marvel franchise.

Morbius and Lady Teia Not only were they bombs at the box office, they were critical flops among critics and audiences alike. Considering that the Poison The films have found a passionate audience who enjoy Hardy’s Marvel films, the last two releases in the larger franchise have been superhero works. This may have impacted Venom: The Last Dance negatively, with casual viewers so disheartened Morbius and Lady Teia that they were not willing to give the ending Poison film a chance.
Our Take on Venom: The Last Dance Box Office Update
There could be more at stake that impacts Tom Hardy’s final Venom movie
I’m not going to say it’s superhero movie fatigue, but Poison and Venom: The Last Dance each released in very different theatrical settings when it comes to superhero films. Poison debuted at its peak in 2018, amid billion-dollar box office grosses Avengers: Infinity War and Aquaman. While Venom: The Last Dance arrived in theaters after a terrible 2023 – for both Marvel and DC – and after two films from its own franchise that failed to connect with the public.
Even though Venom: The Last Dance is the best of Poison movies, which I believe it is, doesn’t have the same attraction on a multiverse event level as Deadpool and Wolverine and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Considering these two MCU films are the only superhero films to have grossed over $1 billion since Avengers: Endgame released in 2019, it seems that audiences want exciting stories with multiverse crossovers. Unfortunately, although Venom: The Last Dance It has the first, it doesn’t have the last.
