Venom: The Last Dance It surpassed the box office total of DC’s best-performing film of 2023 in just four weeks. Venom: The Last DanceThe ending of seemingly ended the trilogy for good, which likely factored into the film’s box office performance. Poison has been a profitable franchise, and despite apparently ending, Poison 3The post-credits scene leaves the door open for future stories if Sony decides to tell them. Although the performance of the next Marvel film, Kraven the Hunter will likely have an impact on Sony’s Spider-Man universe, Poison 3The box office success speaks for itself.
In just four weeks, Poison 3 surpassed the entire box office of DC’s highest-grossing film of 2023: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. These numbers come from Mojo Box Officethat has Poison 3The worldwide box office total has been $456 million so far. Aquaman 2however, it only grossed $439 million in its entire theatrical run. This doesn’t just mean potentially big things for the Poison series and Sony’s Spider-Man universe, but it also says a lot about the state of DC in 2023.
What does the box office mean for Venom 3 beating Aquaman 2?
Relative Poison specifically and the next Spider-Man films, Poison 3 beating a movie like Aquaman 2 it could mean the production of a sequel. Despite Poison 3Despite the apparent purpose, there are ways for Sony to resurrect the character/franchise if the studio so desires. Given that 2018 Aquaman raised more than US$1 billion, Poison 3 Outperforming its sequel will give Sony food for thought about continuing the series.
From DC’s point of view, Poison 3 beating Aquaman 2 it will show how bad the state of the franchise was. 2023 has been a historically bad year for DC films, since the failure of The Flash to the disappointing performances of Aquaman 2, Shazam 2and Blue Beetle. To put this into perspective, Poison 3 It is the worst commercially performing film in the trilogy. Regardless, Poison 3 it still surpassed the best-performing DC film of 2023 in just a month, proving that James Gunn’s upcoming DCU slate is needed now more than ever to reinject life into Marvel’s rival.
Our opinion on Venom 3’s box office performance beating Aquaman 2
In all honesty, I wasn’t too surprised to hear that Poison 3 overcome Aquaman 2box office. As mentioned, DC films have been struggling lately; Aquaman 2 is the highest-grossing film in the DCEU since the first film in December 2018, surpassing the eight theatrical films released since then. Only DC productions outside of the DCEU, such as Clown and Batman managed to overcome Aquaman 2 since 2018, so – as I stated – it’s no surprise that Poison 3 performed better.
After all, the Poison the franchise was, without a doubt, Sony Pictures’ strongest commercial draw in the Sony Spider-Man universe. Now I hope Sony realizes Poison should remain at the center of whatever plans the studio has for the future. Continuous configuration of Poison 3Knull as a universe-altering threat is intriguing, but without Venom, I can’t see how it would succeed. With Venom: The Last Dance performing better than every DC film since 2018, Sony can finally go all in on the titular character rather than less compelling ones like Morbius or Madame Web.
